My shifter was moving all over the place. This video helped me a lot by replacing the bushing. Thanks!

I came here to see a shifter be reinstalled(the 2 runner covers+). I left head low. I already did all the rest...installing trans was a b, but I finally just tightened bell bolts slowly and carefully and it went right on easily. Did the sane thing with a 4runner. Just make sure pins and spline shaft are lined up/already in before you tighten bell housing bolts!

That "clutch bushing" is called the pilot bearing. About the shift bushing ... my 86 had the classic sloppy shifter handle so I replaced the shifter seat and shift socket bushing (the part on the ball point end of the shifter) with a heavy duty kit from Marlin crawler. Theirs is a hard polymer shift seat bushing that rotates around the pins on the shift housing and down into the housing ... this part will not likely wear out in another 400k it's built to last and not expensive at all 35$ got me the shift seat bushing, the shift socket bushing,, and a new shifter grease boot. Stuff was seriously all nice quality too.

I replaced the bushings in my 81' with 22r and 4 speed manual with the toyota parts (after trying the Dorman kit, as both parts on mine were completely disintegrated), should be the same for the newer years according to the parts guy. the Dorman Seat bushing is the same as the toyota part, but the bushing is a harder material that won't fit. Toyota part numbers, Seat: 33505-35020, Bushing: 33548-31010. Total with tax was $20.81.

How did you put the quarter turn top back on after installing the bushings? With the new bushings it's insanely tight and I can't get it to hook back on

Hey there, i just took my truck in to get my shifter replaced i had the same problem buy the stealership replaced the whole stick for 340$ and the real job i needed done was the throw out bearing for 1300 bucks. the chirping is gone from the t.o. bearing and its so much quieter. i had broken clutch disc springs and bent fingers on the clutch plate. the previous owner fucked this truck up pretty bad in an accident and didn't feel like getting a lot of shit fixed now I get to!

I wish you'd shown how you actually put the bottom bushing on the shifter. I tried mine yesterday and split it down the side.

+colby given You could possibly have the wrong size, theres two different types. It should snap on fairly easy.
