Just wanted to say thanks for the video. Yours was the one that helped me the most and I would continually stop, rewind and watch again. My oven is 10 years old so there were some differences that I had to work around. So glad that I was able to save myself the money of replacing my Breville and now I know not to raise the temp to the highest setting! Thanks again!

Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video. I have only owned my new Breville oven for a few months. it is disappointing that this seems like a common problem and it is such a time consuming fix. This video was very helpful. If Breville wont fix it, I hope I can fix it myself! I think the screw stealing monster is related to the sock stealing monster :)

1. Thermal cutoff fuses do not have directionality, they can go either way. 2. There is no need to purchase a whole "fuse assembly", just buy the fuse, cut out the old one, crimp in the new one, slide the insulation over it, fold, and put back in bracket. 3. There is no need to unscrew the bracket that hold the the folded over wire with the fuse, the two tabs holding the wire bend very easily, just bend back into place when you repack the bent wire into it.

Hey! After neglecting to check anything about my vid I see lots who asked for the link for the fuse. Here is the one I bought. www.ereplacementparts.com/search_result.php?q=SP0010484 Also i saw some comments about the placement on the vent and I totally understand how it could be dangerous. 3 years since I've done this fix and so far no incident. I always have my fire extinguisher handy and never go far when i'm using the oven 😉 Thanks for all the wonderful comments! I hope I can make some more useful videos with less ums and chaos. My kiddo would actually help me now so a mother son repair team sounds cool. 😊

Thank you! Most comprehensive video on this topic I've seen and the only one specific to the BOV450XL. About to retry this after getting stalled on the disassembly.

Helpful to see. My unit is the 650XL which has a slightly different layout. But I don't know that it would have occurred to me to take all the feet off in order to get the back plate off, so this was helpful. I ordered the full thermal fuse assembly from here:www.ereplacementparts.com/product_info.php?products_id=630212#RepairInstructions (this link jumps to the most succinct summary of instructions I've seen). Got my pricey (but good!) toaster oven back from no power to working fine again. Thanks!

The fuse and bracket NEEDS to go back in its original position. It is a thermal fuse, it opens and disrupts power if the temperature of the oven exceeds its maximum limit. DO NOT place it anywhere else, or you may have a fire hazard on your hands. I am not "yelling", only trying to emphasize that it is in its original place for a reason. Hopefully you put it back where it belongs.

Thanks guys I really had no clue what I was getting myself into with this repair, and after rewatching myself I can imagine how frustrating I was for people that have more knowledge of these things. LOL thermal fuse now makes total sense why they mounted it there. Good looking out! 😊

Unfortunately with this safety bypass of relocating the thermal fuse is a great way to burn your house down if you had a fire in the toaster oven. Relocating it has about the same affect of deleting the thermal fuse from your toaster. Please reconsider doing this.

you can test the fuse with a multimeter continuity test before blindly replacing it cant you?

Thanks for the video. I have the Breville 650 XL. The layout is quite a bit different, but the fuse is inline with the power cable. After removing like 40 screws, I determined that some people may be able to get it done just removing the back screws and enough screws to work the left side open. I bought 5 thermal fuses and a bunch of uninsulated butt splices so I cut the bad fuse out after verifying there was no continuity with a multimeter. I stripped a bit of the insulation from each side of the wire and crimped the new fuse in making sure it was oriented properly. Your video helped me find the fuse and navigate the mess of screws! I've got an electronics and electrical background and I'd say you did a great job with the teardown and reassembly.

Did you have a panel on the back of the oven that once you removed the back plate underneath it was another plate/cover that appears to be pop riveted on and the legs/feet on mine run the entire length of the oven in two pieces meaning two feet on each side
@Dramob

@@timfitsimones3301Yes. The feet run front to back attached to a plastic bracket. The thermal fuse was tucked underneath the bottom folded in the white sleeved insulator. I used a spudger to bend the tabs on the fuse bracket to gain access to the fuse assembly.

You are very brave to tackle this with a toddler wandering around and wanting attention. My dear aunt was not an engineer by training but her brother (my father) and her father (my grandfather) were both engineers and took stuff apart and put it back together all the time. When my father took apart and reassembled my grandmother's sewing machine, it would only run backwards thereafter. She taught me to build a boat trailer with an axle from a wrecked car, some welding, and a few long timbers. Lady engineers rock. I am a male engineer (retired) and also love to repair stuff. I would feel more comfortable if you'd put the thermal fuse back where it was installed. Just keep your homeowners insurance paid up and a fire extinguisher nearby. I think it is a wandering black hole which sucked up the missing screws. You might find matching screws (likely metric) at an Ace Hardware. Great job!

Just asking if there is a smell after the fuse goes out? That's what I just experienced, so I don't know if the problem is something else.

The multi-tiered foot assembly with that little rubber insert screwed in is absurd. I have to say I’ve lost a little respect for Breville after my fuse blew and then seeing all this silly engineering and over complicated construction. Thanks for the vid and take care.

Since this seems to be a frequent problem, one would think Breville would redesign this safety feature to be much easier to replace. Pity, that such an otherwise excellent product would have such a needlessly complicated replacement process. Maybe Breville should consider some kind of thermal reset switch.

I have a different model, but I needed clues about where the fuse is located. The rest is great too. For someone who doesn’t do this kind of thing every day, you really have a knack for it.
