merc are always involved in scandals around material quality. rusty cars up until 2005. rusty m156 bolts. soft m156 cam adjusters. warpy heads on old straight 6's due to cast iron block with aluminum head. bad m111 head gaskets. probably the same for m112 and m113. cracky wiring harnesses, electronic modules and rubber parts. Vw and especially audi seem far less rusty, all the old 4 cyl 8/16 valve engines can last for eternity without much oil burning and modern tsi junk only has problems with cheap chain guides and undersized timing chains, piston rings and such. bmw is plastic.

@joesarna9154

Don’t listen to this guy.!! You are not supposed to replace 1 bolt at a time as u compromise the bond on the gasket and when u look at the torque spec it’s 10nm 50nm and 3x90 degrees and they have to be torque in a specific pattern. When you remove 1 bolt at a time and do 10nm 50nm and 3x90 is not a proper torque as the other 9 bolts are holding the head down causing this reading to be false. Your car your money I’m just pointing out what’s is proper and what is not.

@@FILTHY-YOGURT That is a good point, but I believe any increase of wear on the pin would be negligible. The spring applying pressure to the pin is fairly weak and it's a polished surface against a polished surface. The pin is also rounded and less likely to "erode" on the tail edge that drops in hole. These guys are smart and came up with a simple, efficient, and cost effective way to extend the lifespan of a poorly designed component. 👍Just my opinion as an experienced MB tech.
