Lydia, I have been watching you for years because of your honesty and vulnerability. Thank you so much for always sharing the highs and lows and always telling us it's okay to do things our way. You are truly one of the few people I watch that I think 'I would love to be her friend'. Sending you much love in 2023 and always.

Thank you for sharing this. My own 2022, started with a house fire on 1/6. In the months that followed I lost both my parents within 10 weeks. They made me, their youngest, everything. I was trustee, healthcare agent, and executor. My oldest adult child moved home. My husband got a huge promotion in December, the interview process started in August. It has been an insane year. Most days I just went through the motions believing that an end would come. Fast forward to 1/1/23. Our home is rebuilt better than it was. I got to have a do over on possessions. We chose to keep it simple and spent the extra replacement funds blessing another. My parents are no longer in pain. Alzheimer's is a beast that eventually took my Mom but she knew us at the end, a blessing. My Dad no longer is fighting to stay her. His heart gave out and though it could have been fixed, he asked me to let him go. He did it his way. My Dad was one smart guy. He knew I would be lost, losing him, being a Daddy's girl. My older siblings easily could have done all the legal stuff. But his last gift to me was confidence. I've sold a home by myself, cleaned out a house, had more lawyer, Dr and bank meetings than anyone should have. I found a trust CPA, kept excellent books, paid Medicaid back, fought for what was legal, paid beneficiaries and did it all with trembling hands and self doubt. Many times my brother would say, you got this, Dad believed in you. So as horrible as the events were in 2022 and I met none of goals nor did I try. I thrived in the mess. I'm no longer scared of the unknown. I may still be timid in the process but I agree with my Dad. I can do it. My 2023 goals look nothing like my 2022 ones. This year they are about love, joy, connecting, just being, and lots of homemade gifts. Also, I've always wanted to see the fireflies but can't win the ticket lottery. If you don't mind sharing where you saw them, I would love to know. My 50th birthday was spent at my Dad's memorial service so I'm getting a do over this year. I already have Dollywood season passes. My bday is in early June. The manatees are amazing. I hope you get to see them. Good luck with college.

Thank you for always being so authentic and vulnerable. I truly love our little chats ;-) My word for 2022 is BLAH. I felt such a lack of enthusiasm for everything. I slept a lot, didn't clean my house hardly ever, nearly stopped exercising all together. I guess there's another word for that: depression. Perhaps I was emulating a caterpillar, saving up all my energy for a transformation. Now, I'm feeling much more energized/motivated and ready to get some stuff accomplished. Let's spread our beautiful butterfly wings and fly!

Books are so personal!! Books I loved will not be liked by many other readers!! My BA in English says so!! Congrats on returning to the College campus!! Graduated at 49. I lost 2 very dear friends in 2021. My sorrow over that loss is still with me. I spent this New Year in tears. I have never lost so much in a very short time in my 66 years. It is tough to overcome!! I have learned by going through this great sadness that I have become overly cautious about the people I allow into my life. Yes, my circle of friends is very small, but I'm ok with that!! This year I want to give up on sugar!! Fingers crossed that I do well with this!!

I like your perspective about your channels' purpose being to create a community. Yes, I DO know about the synchronous fireflies in the Smokies! We were camping there when they first started, years ago, but we didn't see them (my health limits what I can do). I'd still love to see them! And thanks for the head up on manatee season - that would be cool, too. We did make a big trip to CA the year our son graduated from college - amazing. And the Black Hills are one of our favorite places - sorry you got injured while there :( Good for you for going back to school! How exciting. Some great book pics for the year! I just last month read my first-ever Taylor Jenkins Reid novel (Daisy Jones & the Six), but I really want to read Evelen Hugo. The Displacements sounds great. My kids loved iCarly, and I've heard Jeanette's memoir is great. From your description, I think The Missing was the basis for a TV show we really lived! Unfortunately, like many weird sci fi shows, it didn't last more than a season or two. So interesting you didn't like Verity - every reader in my town raved about! I haven't read ANY Colleen Hoover novel yet :o I always do a similar year-end reflection process. Are your reflection questions written anywhere? A couple of them sounded like good additions for my process :) Great video! Happy New Year!!
