@@GamerBody That's my problem. I can't find the name. it makes the research I'm doing to figure out which one I want hard because I prefer to see all three. I can tell you that it is made of latex has handles made into it. It's like the tube ones but it's square. I grew up with it. They still sell it. But it just says resistance band. It doesn't say which one while the others say tube or loop. It's just confusing. With so many different types of resistance bands, you would think they would have a name for it besides resistance band.

After having used the tubes for a few years, I'd like to offer one tip: Warm up the bands before using them! Meaning, if you're keeping them in your cold garage or crawl space, then going right into exercises, they are much more likely to snap. I put mine under my carpet (added bonus of heated floors) for a minute or two. Or, you could leave them in a sun room, or under bedding for a few minutes. (I hope it goes without saying, but, don't put them in the oven or microwave)

Extremely rarely do I comment on videos but this is just too good. Currently I am researching resistance bands and in the back of my head I was wondering what is actually the difference in terms of usage of the resistance vs loop bands. Your video summarizes and explains the whole topic absolutely perfectly. A well-deserved like! If I may be nit-picky the only thing I found irrelevant is the storage and amount of accessories that both come with - I think that's heavily personal opinion. What I mean by that is that I really can't see the issue with just putting back everything in the nice bag they come with. Could be something that builds over time and I am yet to experience it though :)

I had SKLZ mini loop band set (9.5inch) and was on the fence on getting the fabric booty bands or latex, plus the tube bands with grips. Still chose the flat loop bands short and long, as I think I'll get more use out of them anchoring with my arms, feet, sofa/bed post, window grills, dumbbells, barbell etc. One can really go heavy, though wider, they'd pack a better punch than the tubes.

I have and use both. But i think i generally prefer tubes. When you need to choke down on them you can remove or ignore them the handles. Actually, grabbing the tubes is generally easier and more comfortable than the band because they've smaller and round to fit in my fisted grip. Plus on pulling movements its good to just wrap the tube around your hand. But when i can use the handles, i do. Very comfortable. I then can change where i step on them or move away from the anchor.

Loop bands are easier to carry and they have higher resistance. They also hold longer (they are thicker, a friends tube bands are very Thin and start get lighter colour at some stretch points) For the Problem with the Hand just use a wooden stick and wrap the band on it or a wooden pullup ring and step on the Other End. So you can do one arm rows, curls, shoulder press, raises. Diong pushups with Bands does not feel bad on the Hands when the band is placed on your mid Hand and not on your thump. For legs front squats feel the best
@GamerBody
4 жыл бұрын
Yes adding additional items can help, but the comparison is strictly for what you receive without adding things like a wooden stick. For push-ups, I am putting the band across my palm, not my thumb, it is just as uncomfortable. If it works for you, go for it. I personally prefer the option with the handles included. The loop bands are good for assistance work but for other exercises I'd go with the regular bands every time. Thanks for your thoughts!

I use the caribiner clips from the tube bands on the loop bands so you can use handles on the loop bands! Or take them off and use them as normal loop bands. You get a LOT more resistance from loop bands than tube bands which makes them much more useful imo.

Right now I'm using UnderSun but I did have the smallest band snap on overhead tricep ext. I got it replaced recently so I'm seeing if it was just a manufacturer defect. For general exercises I like them the most as my Wodfitters just get to big in size but are great for assistance work.

I started working out with tube bands and found them to be very uncomfortable when you're doing hammer curls and exercises that require the same hand/palm position (the handle starts behaving awkwardly). Loop bands might solve this issue, I found a set of 4 bands on Amazon for 30eu. They're from INTEY with decent reviews...we'll see.

When pressing a barbell it's held in front of your chin and you push straight up so I noticed that you are pressing with bands behind your arms. Wouldn't you mimic the barbell movement with the bands in front of your arms which would strengthen the front of your shoulders which are weaker? Or doing both might be good?
@GamerBody
4 жыл бұрын
Its more of where the arms are traveling in motion. It would also be really hard to hold the band as a lot of strain is out on your thumbs if the bands are in font of your arms. I tend to slide my hands forward a bit but keep the bands behind, that way I can produce the post power in the press and keep the bands secure in the hands.

10:35 in video. When doing pushups and you don't want to touch chest to floor but still want a signal of depth, a standard, have a friend place a small ball under your chest. Go down until you touch your chest to ball. As in video at 10:35.
@GamerBody

Eh, probably won't matter that much unless you have some type of shoulder injury. Either way, just make sure you train hard enough for the body to respond and build muscle at rest.
@michaelkulman7095

@@GamerBody It's a way of enforcing a depth standard besides touching the floor and many do start to slack off on depth as they get tired or try to cheat a test. In the military, sometimes a proctor puts their fist under the chest of the test taker or a flat hand. This has been done at times to enforce a depth standard, a repeatable standard. Having recently watched a bunch of people take fitness tests on KZitem I can certainly see why some have done this, enforced a standard. I also believe the newer push up test where you at the bottom of the move you stick arms out and then in and then repeat is in part so they don't have to lie on the ground looking at your depth or sticking their hand under you. It's an option to use a ball like a tennis ball or racquet ball or a yoga brick or whatever if you want a depth standard besides the floor either to keep others honest or yourself or importantly as a regression or progression in range of movement. If it doesn't bother a person to use the floor fine but the standard some use is literally a flat hand or a fist or a facsimile like I mentioned. Some are training to a test and that test's standards. Some might just want to be cautious in regards to their shoulders.

@@GamerBodyAlso, I was actually making a joke about the dog, your "friend" placing a ball under you for push ups. That said, I actually do use a racquet ball, at least at this time. Research on stretch mediated hypertrophy does have me reconsidering that though. Reconsidering but it's all about tradeoffs especially if one does have some shoulder problems or is just cautious.

Hi guys! At what length do the resistance levels occur? For example, how far do I need to pull the 15 lb band to actually feel 15 pounds? This is helpful if I want to increase the resistance from, say, 15 to 17 lbs but not 20 lbs, or to start at 10 lbs and not 15 lbs. In other words, I almost feel I should get a weight scale to "calibrate" distances so that I don't overwork a muscle. Thanks for answering!
@GamerBody

Without an actual measuring device this won't be possible. Instead, focus on what you did before then grab or pre-stretch the band to where it was before to do the workouts. You might be getting a little too precise here and instead just focus on finding a resistance that is challenging each workout then maybe adding the lightest band and working your way up from there.

The bands will provide more than that at full stretch (depending on the band you use). When I used to go to the gym (a long time ago) I was able to bench 240. With multiple bands I can get about that resistance when in fully stretch position. Just know that not all exercises match the strength curve properly with bands so I recommend partial reps when reaching failure (basically go through contraction as far as possible until you can't stretch the bands at all anymore.

Tube bands can be expensive, if you buy the higher end ones, which you definitely should. The resistance numbers on the $20-$30 tube bands are highly inaccurate and they stretch out over just a short period of time, resulting in less elasticity, less resistance and higher chance to snap. If you do buy tube bands, do your own research and buy the ones that are higher quality. They tend to be $80-$100 but they tend to come with lifetime warranty and you can tell that they feel more quality and stretch out less over time. Loop bands are expensive but they are much more durable. You can buy attachments and carabiners for loop bands as well. In general, if you want heavy resistance, then loop bands will suit you more. For working on your core and such, tube bands are better because the attachments for them are more convenient and your core doesn't require crazy 160lb+ resistance anyhow.
