Thank you for doing this heartfelt tribute. The Moody Blues are my all-time favorite band. I had the honor of meeting Mike on a few occasions. What a beautiful man and the "soul" of the band. His music means so much to me and so many others. God bless and RIP.

I'm 65 and all the time some ole rock guy dies. But the news of Mike Pinder's passing caused a tweak in my gut as his songs in the Moodies were extra special to me. After the release of Octave I heard an interview of him driving down the Kennedy in Chicago one night. His expressiveness was so layered and elegant. He decided, as Graeme said in the Video collection Legen of a Band that Mike had the pen in his hand....but the thought of touring again kept him from signing up. But his music lives on. My Song is one of my favorite songs ever. I think I'll listen to Melancholy Man now.

I think you’re in for a real treat. I couldn’t tell you where to start. If you’re able to start somewhere, check out This Is The Moody Blues. It has songs from 7 of their classic albums. On it is the B side A Simple Game. From there, listen to the albums from beginning to end. I doubt you’ll be disappointed!

So very sad to hear this news. My condolences to his family and his fans. I wasn't a huge fan per se, but I do own a couple of their albums, and The Moody Blues, rather like the Beatles, the Stones, the who e.t.c have been part of my life, the musical backdrop to my entire life, and this is indeed a sad day, but also a day of reflection and celebration of the life of someone who brought so much joy to so many others with his music. So rest in peace Mike Pinder and thank you...

Sad to hear about Mike's passing. We already lost Graeme Edge and Ray Thomas, as well as original members Denny Laine and Clint Warwick (I know Mike, Graeme and Ray were also original members but Denny and Clint didn't stay in the band for long). At least Justin Hayward and John Lodge are still alive, as well as Mike's replacement Patrick Moraz.

Thank you, sir, for such a wonderful and heartfelt message to Mike. I too, only got into the Moody Blues in recent years and Mike Pinder's songs stood out in a way that they are warm, honest, soulful and philosophical and his mellotron had such a deep and meaningful sound. There will never be another Mike Pinder. Thank you again - with soul-less AI generated news, to hear it from a true fan with true emotion is exactly what made us gravitate to Mike and his music in the first place and you honor him humbly.

A fitting tribute. The mellotron as re-invented by Mike will always be associated with the golden age of progressive rock, but it has also enriched the music of bands as different as the Move and Faith No More. A legacy few will ever match.

Yes, I'd agree with that opinion, they hit the heights with their albums between 1967 and 1972, when they released 7 albums in only a 5 year period, many of them best sellers.

Pinder was key to the Moodies' sound even when playing songs he didn't compose. He also composed some very fine songs for them, and to this day I consider "Lost in a lost world" one of the greatest songs of the rock music era. I also purchased his solo album around 1976 or so, and though it was a little disappointing the song "Hold on, don't give in" was good enough to have been on a Moodies LP. It's a darned shame that Haywood and Lodge couldn't convince him to join them in another LP, that would have included their songs that ended up on their forgotten "Bluejays" LP. That would have been another major triumph if Pinder had been involved.
