In my experience with Revature, it's a pretty crappy place to work. Nobody there seems to know what they're doing. The "instructors" often struggle with even the basics of OOP. The higher-ups are even worse in some ways. Revature tried to improve by getting rid of Ravi Singh, but I don't know if that made a difference.

I’m currently in the process of getting hired (I’m talking to the hiring manager tomorrow) and as of right now training is remote. The pay is minimum wage in whichever state you live in (in the training stages) which isn’t too bad for me. The least they’ll probably pay you (minimum wage wise) while training is $8 and I think they go up to $15 (again, depending on your state). I graduated with Graphic Design and only had experience in HTML and CSS (if you can even call it that, I don’t think I’m that good in either right now lol) but I’m really close to being hired and I’m hoping I’ll be able to fit well in the coding industry, I’m unsure of if I’ll be able to make it through training but I’m definitely determined and willing to put in the effort. For anybody looking to apply, just know that in the very early stages of training you can opt out and not be punished for it. But don’t wait to drop out later on because they did say there is a $36,000 fee if you do (with expeditions to things like medical emergencies, etc. where you’re not dropping out because it is kinda forced). BUT know that they will also have the option to drop you if they see that despite your hard work and efforts that you are just not performing well in general. And if they happen to drop you then there is no fee at all.
@LordTails

Revature will teach you roughly everything you need to know. Java and spring, angular or react, JavaScript, HTML and CSS, and databases. So I'd just focus on learning what they teach. @LordTails
2 жыл бұрын
@Daisy Walks by Faith Sure! My training was remote since it was at the peak of the pandemic. As far as I know I was one of the first that did remote training with Revature (back in 2020). I got placed the following January so it was still all remote. Some of the jobs are being pulled back to the office but a lot of it is still remote and likely will be for a long time, if we ever go back to offices. A lot of tech, to my understanding, is going remote, if it isn't already. I work with a team that is exclusively in Latin America and India and I use a computer that remote connects to a VDI (that is located who knows where) so getting me in an office makes little to no sense. A lot of the jobs here in the States in tech are likely going to stay remote (not to say the majority but at least a very sizable portion) because it is practical and more cost-effective unless your company holds real estate. I'm pretty sure the push with Tesla of going back to the offices and killing their remote jobs is more the exception than the norm. As for if Revature still does remote training, to be honest I am not sure since I very rarely talk to Revature at this point in my contract (they just pay my salary and do a check-in once every other month). I did not receive any communications saying they are axing remote training so I assume it is at least partly remote. Very short answer, if you join Revature, there is a significant chance you'll be remote at least after training as in you'll get to work anywhere you want as long as you work 9am to 5pm Eastern (if you live on the west coast that means you work from 6am to 2pm, Mountain time it would be 7am to 3pm, etc.) and have a reliable Internet connection. I hope that answers your question.

Congrats on applying and getting accepted to the training. Revature used to recommend doing their full stack trainings on their website. Not sure if they still have it though, but if they do, I'd recommend doing their full stack java or full stack .NET course before you get into training. It will teach you how to code in Java or C#, how to interact with a database, and how to build a web application. If they don't have it any longer, I would say you should learn how to code in either Java or Javascript. I've heard learning Javascript before Java is easier than learning it after, so maybe start by learning Javascript. Either way you have a month to learn at least one programming language before training starts and you should absolutely do that. As far as software, many of it is tech specific, meaning you'll have a different tool for coding in C# vs Javascript or databases. If you have a little cash to spare, and are serious about going into software development, I'd recommend getting the Jetbrains IDEs. You can pick up a single one for cheaper, but the tools are, in my opinion, the best tools out there for most languages, especially if you're coding in Java. Intellij by jetbrains absolutely destroys eclipse. Otherwise, Eclipse is free for coding in Java, and Visual studio is free if you're coding in C#. Good luck in the program.

@@StudioKavod what is the training like? Day to day wise. Mostly hours of the day i mean. I live in tampa so if theres a training center here would i be able staying at the training center or like is it a 9-5 normal working hours type of training?
@StudioKavod

If you're in Tampa and Revature is back in person, then you have the option of staying at one of their dorms, but they take part of your training paycheck to pay for the expenses accrued. The training is 9-5 mon-fri, but I'm not sure how their change to remote during COVID has affected those hours. Training can vary by instructor and batch, for example my trainer preferred to rush through the information as quickly as possible which would let us put a few hours early on Fridays, but we had to do the projects at home on our own time. Other trainers would go slightly slower and let students have time in the afternoon to work on the projects but hold everyone till 5 every day.

Hello, I'm going to be honest. I don't know a lot about math however I do have my AAS in information technology and networking. Is there a lot of math involved? Also I received my AAS through DeVry during the time COVID-19 began, with that said I have absolutely no hands on training for anything and no job prospects. What's your advice and where can I possibly fit into a field that I really know nothing about? Thank you for your help.
@StudioKavod

If you can do basic math (addition/subtraction/multiplication/division) you can do around 80% of programming. However, since math is mostly logical problem solving someone's ability to do math is often an indicator of how good they will be as a software engineer. That said if you can solve logical problems and create step by step instructions, you can do software development. As far as advice, I'd say figure out what you want to do within the tech field. There's a lot of jobs available in a lot of different areas. So just try things and see if you like it

during revature staging, can you still stay within revature housing?
@StudioKavod

I believe you have to stay in Revature housing if you were training on location until they release you from staging (get you a job) but you'd have to check with Revature because they've made some changes recently that I'm not aware of.

I have Wordpress HTML and CSS experience, been doing it for 8+ years. I also just graduated with a software engineering BS. Would I be able to say "I want more web training"? (primarily because I don't know JS, PHP, etc.) or are they just going to throw me into a new stack clean slate?

With your experience, learn JavaScript and react on your own. With 8+ years of experience in web design you should be able to get a job without going through Revature

They might. One of the guys in my batch only had an AA. But if you only have a year left in undergrad, I'd finish it out. They are more likely to take you with a BA

I just read that they were an exploitative, predatory place that is worse than being unemployed. I went to Google to research it and found this video. I disagree that not everyone can learn programming though. Maybe they cannot all learn with the same method, but anyone of normal intelligence can learn.

Good Morning SirPinkBeard, I have a Bachelors in Computer Information Technology and now I’m in school working on my Masters. My question is if I sign up for the training, is possible to go to school online while you attend the training? Or you can’t be linked to any other school while you attend Revature? Thanks in advance.

You totally can go through the training and do school at the same time. But they highly frown on that simply because you won't be able to do both well given how much time each requires to do well

Yes. Most jobs require a degree of some kind to even consider hiring you. And Revature is no exception. You can have an AA and they may take you, but since most companies you'd actually do work for will require a BA at least it'll be harder
