So now we have a Daytona 660 a road oriented sport bike which now sell better than track oriented sport bikes.

Agreed. Personally, I would buy this bike over an Aprilia for both reliability and panache due to that 3 cylinder engine and the Triumph name. Honda has an edge in reliability but Triumph know how to make motorcycles as well. What really impresses me is the torque curve which is better than both the RS 660 and the CBR. I think this bike is going to give the rest of the sector a lot of headaches. Good on Triumph.

Riding well be the proof, but this may be a brilliant move for Triumph! The last 675 Daytona was a wonderful expensive bike that didn't sell well. However, a 10k sport bike may sell in the numbers they need. In the past, Triumph has gotten a lot out of modest components with careful tuning and development. If that's the case here, it may be what the market needs. The first Daytona was a 500cc twin that was overshadowed by the 650 twin - but the 500 won the race the bike was named after

This is more likely to be based off the street triple 660 rather than the trident et al (well the engine at least) In Australia the A2 equivalent system (LAMS) requires bikes to have 660cc max, and for many recent years there has been a street triple 660 sold there. Once de-restricted that street triple 660 makes more power (a good 10-15 hp more) than the trident (very similar to the graphs you showed actually) There are a few reasons it makes more power the main one being it has 3 individual throttle bodies compared to the 1 throttle body of the trident et al bikes, which have been designed with a slightly less sporty flavour.

If I were buying new stock in this class I think I would prefer the RS660, runner up for the gsx8r. This doesn't look bad but the only "novelty" for me is that triple. It might be enough to get people to buy, wish them the best.

I agree that the RS660 is the best of the bunch. However, it is considerably more expensive. Here in Australia, the Daytona is $14,000 and the RS660 is $23,000.

I'd just buy a proper daytona 675r 2013! Then you have the best of all!

@Lemoncarp 🤣 I currently own a 2013 triumph daytona 675r hence my comment! It's not wildley uncomfortable either if you're riding it properly man up! I've always opened sports bikes and love them .... also its not like an inline four it does have some low end power but then you must know that having owned one yourself..... unless of course you're just "whining on the internet" 🤣🤣

@@alangraddock4199 “man up” yea ok dude some people work real jobs and have back and wrist pains that make being hunched over for hours at a time suck. “Just grip the tank!!!” In the twisties sure but commuting on the freeway hell no 😂 you can do it but a naked or one of these new bikes is much more comfortable and you know it. Sure the triple gives it better torque than an average supersport, but you still are doing freeway speeds in first if you get on it, doesn’t really leave much room for running through the gears without committing felony speeding. I loved my 2014 675r, but there’s no way you can argue it’s a logical choice for a street bike unless you “have” to have a supersport.

Al is right. The 'Daytona' is now watered down. I don't see the value in doing that. Does the press release nod to any Daytona 675 heritage (frame, swingarm, or other parts)? They could have just called it the 'Tona' or the 'Day'... 😂

One thing to keep in mind as I layout this list is that manufacturers can save HUGE money by being able to use the same basic engine architecture across multiple platforms. I4’s Pros + Perfect primary balance allows them to rev higher for great peak hp + Incredibly smooth I4’s Cons - Heavier - Harder to package - Expensive to produce - Short spaced power pulses reduce traction on loose/wet surfaces - Lack low end torque (unless sacrificing the top end advantage) That’s why you tend to only find them in super sports or sport touring bikes. 2’s Pro’s + Inexpensive to produce + Better low/mid range torque + Easy to package + Light weight + Wide spaced power pulses increase traction 2’s Con’s - More vibration - Lower rev limits = lower top end power This is why so many manufacturers love parallel twins. Those qualities make them okay in cruisers, naked bikes, forgiving track bikes, and function well off road in adventure bikes. It’s ability to seamlessly blend across platforms make them ideal from a business standpoint. Now triples compromise the two in many ways. ~ They can rev higher than twins for more peak power without sacrificing the low/mid torque. ~ They are middle of the road as far cost to build, weight, and complexity and size. ~ Triumph’s firing order produces power pulses very similar to a 270° p-twin so they are still suitable for light off-road applications ~ Their power delivery is unique, which has its own charm which can be a pro or con depending on rider. Triples then make a great blend for any bike that would be used for both commuting and aggressive track riding. They’re also passable in adv applications.

If they also add a Daytona 1200 to the range then i am ok with having a Daytona 660 and the DAYTONA name is more to do with the model range that covers both spectrums. Like the R3 R7 R1 range from Yamaha.

11:30 I still don't get the argument of it "already being on the bike" You were NEVER paying for the hardware it's the R&D. My Friend has a 300 quid honda QS on his CB650R that stopped working... Guess what's inside it? A Steel pin, a spring, and a cast alu body to house a £4 switch..... Replaced the switch, thing works again. The body wouldn't have cost more than a tenner to make, and the pins and springs you can legitimately buy off the shelf for single digit £££... What you're paying for is the R&D honda put into the SOFTWARE to make it work. For KTM it doesn't cost anything to put the QS on the bike because the sensor setup they use is on the bike anyway for the bike knowing what gear it's in, it's simply a slightly more complex unit that can also detect movement of the shift shaft. They have to install it whether or not you want a QS. It's the same with their Track packs etc, it's already got lean angle sensitive electronics by default so all the hardware for it is there, you're paying for the R&D of making it more adjustable. I'd honestly much rather have this than Honda charge 750 quid for a 20 quid shift linkage and then double dip with the R&D also being put on the bike's price..... Lovely episode as always on an interesting bike otherwise!

I bet everything about it except the electronic tune is the same as the other 660's. I own a 660 Tiger and a Daytona 675. Id buy a used late model 675 way before i would a new 660, you could get one here for about 70% of the 660 price and get a lot more bike. It sucks that they did basically a spin-off and called it Daytona.
