I'm just getting started doing blackwork and am struggling with mapping the path of stitches to make the more complex motifs, and what what I've heard called "diaper" patterns, truly reversible. Is that even possible? Do you know of any resources for step-by-step/stitch-by-stitch blackwork pattern tutorials?

I like to study a pattern prior to beginning the embroidery, to figure out the first journey and the return journey. Find your starting point (I like to work from left to right, and then return with right to left filling in all of the blank spaces). The starting point would be the easiest place for you to start, then go around creating the first half of the pattern, and then retracing your steps by filling in the blank spaces on the way back to your starting point. This gives the embroidery the sense that it is reversible because it is the same pattern on both sides. A few months ago, I did a step by step video showing how I created the pattern on the computer based on historical patterns, followed by how I did the embroidery on linen from beginning to end. kzitem.info/news/bejne/rp6jk4OZqHt5en4 Hope this helps!
