I really like the premise of a semi linear plot where you go from one area/circle of hell to the next, but each individual circle is an open area to explore, reminds me a lot of xenoblade chronicles 1, one of my favourite video games ever, where the plot is fairly linear, but each area along the way is huge and sprawling allowing you to branch out and explore to your curiosity to help break up the pacing more to your tastes and make the world feel more rich and detailed.

Hello Dave! I just discovered your channel. Thanks for the informative review of Chains of Asmodeus! I have been looking for a good review of it since it came out. I have a question. Is the adventure just a matter of going through one level of hell, defeating the archdevil, and then proceeding to the next level of hell and repeating all the way to end when you face Asmodeus, or is there a little more meat to the plot with twists and mysteries and whatnot? Thanks for the help and thanks for your video review!

Hey... I'm one of the writers on Chains. The adventure isn't about fighting the archdevils one by one. In fact it's very much NOT about that at all. The adventure mostly revolves around recovering souls in various hotspots through the Nine Hells. There *are* opportunities to fight some of the archdevils but that's not the focus of the plot--and is very likely a lethal mistake for most parties.

Hello! Thanks for the comment! There's a lot more going on than just level-solving. I didn't want to give too many spoilers in the video, but the corruption mechanic, the patron group your parties use, and the souls they wind up trying to save all factor into the plot, and especially into the endgame.

@@BrentKnowles_GameDesigner Hey, thanks for stopping by! I didn't see your comment at first because YT for some bizarre reason held it as potential spam. And thanks for the clarification too!

0:33 I too just found this channel and I'm looking forward to the review. Please adjust your volume. I had my volume turned up so I could hear you, then got blasted by your intro. If you could make them about the same volume, then my ears will be eternally grateful.... And now, on to the show...

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry about that! We’re fairly new and still getting our audio engineering figured out. I’ll make sure to pay attention to normalizing audio levels!

2:26 Do you really need Monsters of the Multiverse, or will Mord. Tome of Foes and Volos Guide to Monsters work? Is there anything special in the update to this adventure?

Pretty sure everything referenced is in Mordenkainen’s tome of foes as well so you don’t really need MotM.

I've looked into this (twice) and after a couple of false starts, I have the answer, lol. Yes, you can get by with Volo's Guide and Tome of Foes. More info in my follow-up video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1oup23ZtjZtni6g

The adventure is written in a pretty open way for who the souls are and why they're there. It has suggestions in case you need somewhere to start, but yes, you can easily set that up your own way with your own characters and story.

It is a shame that there is no print version of the book and in addition to this it is a catastrophe how WOTC is handling translations of their prodct these days. I think I am relatively fluent in english however I want my books in german and since they translate every MTG edition in german it should be possible....
