We need more unapologetically retro/90's styled devices like these. I feel like it's usually such an easy cop-out for most brands to just slap a DMG colorway (which I love, honestly) and/or some kind of blue or purple clear case on a device and feel like that's enough design for one lifetime. I'm praying for the day I stop seeing a million switch/switch lite clones and I start seeing more awesome stuff like this that really emulates not just the games, but also the experience of a new handheld from the past; faults and all. I'd love to see this with the power of the RP3+ or RG505 to really warrant the dual sticks.

I honestly expected the buttons to be worse after all the reviews. They're basically mid-tier and maybe half of my other handhelds have worse. You really can't undersell how comfortable it is, especially for someone with big hands. No cramps like with an anbernic. Also FYI it fits in an anbernic case, which is considerably easier to fit in your pocket.

The Neo Geo Pocket Color has some of the best controls I've felt on a handheld. The joystick feels extremely precise, due to it using micro switches similar to arcade controls. It's very noisy, but worth the precision. The only thing to come close to it since then has been the Vita's d-pad where you can feel every directional roll actuate as you press.

I definitely agree that it has a 90s aesthetic with a lot of flashy design choices that can make it look like it's for kids, but I really dont see how it looks so much more ugly than half of the other typical emulation handhelds lol. Especially the majority of the Powkiddy stuff. Even that RGB 10 Max at the end looks like a cheap toy with Creamsicle colors. A lot of this stuff looks silly and sometimes garish in a way. May as well embrace it, especially considering the games we are playing on them. It looks like the controls on this device are a bit questionable, but the screen alone looks better than the vast majority of handhelds on this channel. Seems like it could be a nice purchase for the price for someone wanting a 4:3 with nice screen and GBA style form factor.

The design aesthetic is one that, at first, I would’ve expected to not like, but actually think is pretty cool. It doesn’t try to hide that it is all about retro gaming; in fact, it boldly embraces that persona. I like that about the translucent color options offered for the Retroid Pocket 2 as well. They know what they are, and they’re proud of it. 😎 Don’t get me wrong; I appreciate the more subtle classic styles too. Respect for the respect put on this device, he understands how much work is put into everything....... i appreciate that these devices exist..... every device is becoming homogenised into the anbernic or switch slab..... so its nice to see something really different..... this device is like the casio gshock of the handheld devices, i think the designer should play on that fact as well and take inspiration from gshock and put those "bullbars" or guards around the device lol just make it chonky and indestructible just like hulk!!! this would be a perfect device for a 10yr old who throws stuff around probably lol.... id say its a nice alternative to powkiddy..... but anbernics are lush and almost hipster and collectible.... i mean a wooden gameboy??! is fantastic! i think its the expectation now people have of these devices now..... The Chinese companies are raising their game! some are hit and miss some are just really cheap and cheerful and were essentially toys to the chinese its just us westerners have begun collecting and liking the stuff that isnt available over here in the west..... and then you have the highend premium chinese companies that nobody have heard of selling quality handheld pcs

A Pi3b system retropie should be based on that but should have a qwertychatpad (like an xbox360 controller has) and a SDR usb dongle inside (with LoRa too) and 2 IR-recivers and 2 IR-blasters. It should thereby also run full games (not just emulated) such as supertuxkart and BlenderGameEngine (just about on lowest settings) and 0AD and Pioneer. Also it should run a self-host XMPP-RSS chat-social-media such as Movim (actualy self-hosting) and IPFS for files such as small videos and LibreOffice files, and modest usage of KODI. Being able to use a battery pack (powerbank) like modern smartphones have would resemble the atari-lynx which had a large battery pack. On that pack, an external Hard-Drive could be placed for optional usage (or even a DVDRW in a few situations). The IR blasters/recievers mean a wii-remote can be used if mouse emulation and accelerometers were required in a specific scenario like when charging via PoE as it updates the IPFS.

Regardless, I still advice you to build your own roms for several reasons; 1. It's unethical for manufacturer to provide preloaded roms (sure this is China we're talking about but still); 2. Those preloaded roms are just bad. They contain hacked or Chinese translated roms, as well as generally unsupported rom formats; 3. By providing your own roms you can set your own interest and choose which games you want to play or not. Nothing comes perfect out of the box, but the community have been working on building custom firmwares for most devices to enhance the user's experience. Wait when playing Mario you use b and a like that instead of using y and b or even x and a?

Yes, by default that’s how they’re set up. In my setup video I’ll show how to change them to y and b instead.

@@RetroGameCorps got ya, just wondered why you didn’t remap it to make it more intuitive but I look forward to see your more in depth video

There's just no perfect device is there. I'd love a horizontal form factor RK3326 device with a 640x480 screen, but not with those buttons and an unlaminated screen. Still rocking the RG350M.

Great review, on the other hand, i dont understand why manufacturers push this weak, outdated chip rk3326. To be cheap for us, no to get ripped, yes. All these devices have same performance, pls leave this old chip and get a decent one on same price tag, there are a lot out there.

Because you can buy 1,000 of them for like 200 dollars
