I think that this was one of the most stunning things that I'd ever seen. I was a little confused at first at how small and simple it was, but when it rose, and the kinetic sculpture started spinning...wow!

Just come from seeing Tokyo 2020 cauldrons lighting and I’m a little disappointed due its simplicity. I like more Brazil’s, it’s really a masterpiece how a small flame can move brilliantly all those metallic elements. This represents the lightening of a cauldron can be innovative and magical independently of the country’s wealth.

The Olympic Flame is lit in a ceremony in Olympia, from a ray of sunlight, as a tribute to Apollo. Then the flame is carried around the world and ends up lighting the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony. The fact this one also represents the sun makes everything go full circle. Beautiful.

Lol as if a slightly smaller cauldron is gonna compensate for the thousands of sq. kilometres of Amazon burnt. They could have just used electric cauldron if they really wanted to go green.

No offense to Vanderlei (but I guess it is) but my first thought was that they made a huge mistake that they should've had Pelè lit the cauldron even though he has never competed at any Olympic games, just the fact that he's Pelè Brazils greatest sporting figure. But after knowing Vanderlei's Olympic back story I totally understand now, and that the Brazilian Olympic Committee made the right choice. For many the honor of lighting the Olympic flame at your home Olympics far exceeds winning a gold medal if Vanderlei feels the same then he definitely needs to thank that Irish priest.
