As a kid in South Africa during the 1970's he was a household name, he was kind of a mythological hero, his music was a big influence and our protest songs of the time. Thanks.

RIP He first toured Australia and New Zealand in the late 1970s and later returned to Australia in 2014 then again in 2016 for a run of 14 shows and also released the iconic live album, Rodriguez Rocks - Live In Australia much loved down under. Peace out.

I saw him in the summer of 2014 in Northern Michigan where he was beloved. He was an awesome performer. His 2 records in the 70's are great & just didn't find an audience. The Documentary is really entertaining & rewarding. 👍

No, his music did find an audience. I can't speak on South Africa's behalf, but I can certainly vouch that he had an audience in Australia. He played in Australia in the 70's. My brother, my dad and my husband saw him in concert, and the 'Cold Fact' album was a popular cult item at the time.

@@davidellis5141 You also take care. But before you do, let me just say that he played in Australia in the late 70's and early 80's, and got *paid.* I've seen the documentary, and it's great. His South African story is much more compelling than the Australian one. I'm sure his success in South Africa could have made him millions. But he was aware of what he had in Australia, and he also mentioned that his South African fandom began when the Saffas were receiving bootlegs from Australia. Anyway, it's neither here nor there. The music is spreading and that's what matters. Take care.

I was lucky to move to Australia in the late 70's, where Sixto Rodgriguez had made a name for himself. My girlfriend at the time introduced me to his 'Cold Fact' in 1978, and it was an album I carried with me for many years. There is also a beautiful documentary about him named Searching For Sugar Man. Another dearly departed soul that's behind some great records is Died Pretty frontman Ron Peno. I just heard he passed away. The band had many great songs. One of the band's biggest hits was ''DC'' which a song about grief and a loss of a friend. Perhaps you could react to that song soon.

Very few people knew anything about him. His record company screwed him so bad. The film Searching For Sugarman is a stone cold classic.

I like this but hadn't heard of him. It sounds like keyboards in the background and either violin or guitar through a few filters. The Echo/Reverb on the voice in the second half is excellent.

I grew up on his music. My brother played his music right through the 70's and into the 80's. He had the 'Cold Fact' album on tape and it was always playing in his car. My husband, who was initially my husband's (best) friend, also liked his music. But ugh.. As much as i enjoyed his singing and playing, Ridriguez's songs just bummed me out. I do recommend you two watching the documentary _Searching for Sugar Man._ The documentary focuses on Rodriguez's popularity in South Africa - which is fine - he was very big over there. However, he also had a relationship with Australia. He played concerts over here in the 70's and both my brother and his friend (the friend who is now my husband - because I married my older brother's bestfriend) saw those shows. I think he might have been opening for Midnight Oil or Cold Chisel.. one of those bands. RIP Sixto Ridriguez. Thank you for preparing a happy-go-lucky little kid for the world with some much-needed cold facts.

@@colrhodes377 Hey Col. Ha ha - you're getting mixed up with the info. I married in 1998. No divorce. My older brother's friend, Matt, is a few years younger than him. They worked together and would see bands live - back in the 70's. Anyway, Matt and I started to like eachother in the mid 80's and we eventually married. We now have two teenagers. My older brother and my sister, Hayley (who you've spoken to), weren't too thrilled about our rendezvous, but you know.. What could they or anybody else do? By the way, I'll be seeing Paul McCartney in concert this month!!! 🤯🥳🥳🥳🥳

@@colrhodes377 I might have to check that interview out on KZitem. I have had a thing for Macca since I was a really young kid. Like 5 years old or something. I first saw him with Wings at the Myer Music Bowl in 1975 (I was about 8). Then in 1993 and 2017. Thankfully, my husband also likes Paul McCartney, though he doesn't care for the albums I like the most: ''Back To The Egg'' and ''McCartney II''. Tell me, have you heard those AI tunes of Paul McCartney ''singing'' other people's songs?

I got see Rodriguez in 1979, 1981 and in the 2010's. He toured with Midnight Oil on the 1981 tour. All my mates, surfers and hippies, loved the _Cold Fact_ album at the time. Great times leaning against the kombi van, smoking pot and watching the surf, as Rodriguez enlightens us on the realities of the world. I think you should try ''Crucify Your Mind'' as the next Sixto tune. RIP Rodriguez

Slightly weird! I was listening to an Iggy Pop radio show where he talked about this guy, just the other day Apparently an extremely humble man, Iggy talks about how Rodriguez was invited to some awards ceremony, and put up in a hotel. He slept on the floor, as being in a fancy hotel blew his mind. Edit, jumpers are amphetamines
