This song depressed me in the most delightful ways as a lad, and continue to do so today. I remember the first time I heard this song as a young feller', and the lyrics just...struck me. There was something there, something that made me want to take a deeper listen. The moment I got home, I hopped online, looked up the lyrics, and proceeded to listen to it again, and again, and again. I consumed it; consumed every single word, internalized his every point of emphasis and inflection. This song was life altering, and, even to my young mind, provided so much perspective as to what was the important in life. These simple, yet deep sentiments were ingrained in m fifteen year old mind from that moment forward. I'm thirty now, and to this very day, this song resonates me. Especially with the amount of loss in my life, now, more than ever, this song rings its truest to me. I can't thank this band enough for all the years of great music, and all the grueling times they've gotten me through. They'll always be one of my favorite bands. I don't normally go on these long rants in the comments, and if anyone's taken the time to read this, my sincerest apologies, and at the same time, my deepest thanks haha...I've had some rather unfortunate news today, so forgive my reflective, 2 AM rambling in the comments section. Hope the lot of you are having a much better year, and if you're not, just remember: You're not alone, and, eventually, things will get better, so just hang in there. Stay Nerdy, friends.

"Swing Life Away" Am I loud and clear, or am I breaking up? Am I still your charm, or am I just bad luck? Are we getting closer, or are we just getting more lost? I'll show you mine if you show me yours first Let's compare scars, I'll tell you whose is worse Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words We live on front porches and swing life away, We get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave till the end, I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand I've been here so long, I think that it's time to move The winter's so cold, summer's over too soon Let's pack our bags and settle down where palm trees grow I've got some friends, some that I hardly know But we've had some times, I wouldn't trade for the world We chase these days down with talks of the places that we will go We live on front porches and swing life away, We get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave till the end, I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand....until you hold my hand I'll show you mine if you show me yours first Let's compare scars, I'll tell you whose is worse Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words We live on front porches and swing life away, We get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave till the end, I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand Swing life away [x4]

Who's still rockin wit Rise in 2022??? 🙋♀️ Rise Against was my hometown/high-school's FAVORITE band. I graduated in 2005 from Middletown, NJ and my class went to all their shows, jammed out to them at ALL of our parties and this song was collectively our UNOFFICIAL class graduation song. There are so many memories tied to this song that I will never, could never forget and that's exactly why music is so powerful, so profound and even one song by one band can change lives.

I cannot understate how many times I have heard this song. For the time that I was with my daughter we incorporated this song EVERY night. She would sing it, I would sing it, we would listen to it and sometimes sing along. I’ve hardly seen her in four years and I still can hardly listen to my favorite song without breaking down crying. My wife knows Rise is my favorite band; she has treated me to each concert near us since we’ve been together, the best one was on (day of, not near or weekend of) my birthday in Chicago when they toured for Ghost Notes Symphonies. I just wish I could convey to Tim how much this single song after all these years has had such an impact on my life.

Ever go look for a song, when you're thinking of someone because every time you hear it it takes you back in time to a moment you wish would've lasted forever? I visit this one frequently for that exact reason. Its that guilty feeling where you wish you could stop missing someone you're not supposed to miss anymore..but at the same time you savor missing them because that's all you have left so you can't imagine really ever giving it up.

ironically, this is my favorite song of all time (by my all time favorite band, no less) so I come here to reflect or listen and fade out from the world for a bit, get lost in my own thoughts and feelings. It's a time capsule for me, and I can't help but feel joy after listening to it.

i have the words swing life away tattooed on my left ankle.., there once was a guy..it was 'our song'. it marked some pretty significantly emotional events in our relationship.. it was hard to listen to for awhile when that ended..now when i listen..it still aches but in a good way.

I used to listen to this song when I was trying to get over someone. I'm now having to get over the same person (yeah, I know. I make great choices), and that's why I'm here.

I've listened to this band for quite some time. The first time I heard this song I was very young, and didn't much care for it. I like to think I've grown quite a bit with this band, as it is now my favorite song.

This song is what being young and free feels like probably. I'm quite young but I never felt completely free, I guess this is what happens when you were raised expecting to behave like an adult. But kn lonely summer nights I just like to listen to this song and wonder what would have been of me it things in my life had been a little bit different. It's unhealthy but the nostalgia almost becomes so overwhelming that you want more of it.

"I won't cross this street until you hold my hand" I held them and helped them. They crossed the street and they're doing much much better across 'this street'. I'm so proud of them, if there's anything left I can do to help them, I'll do it. I'll do anything to keep them coming back to my side of life. I just hope one day and they look back, they'll remember a little about me and I played a small part on their life.
