AKA Sharon. I do what you just did, Mike. Keep them closed up for an hour or two and check on them again. If most of the robbers have given up, I open only one of the top tabs just enough for one bee at a time to get in. That gives the guards an easier time figuring out who belongs there or not. Most of the bees that belong to that hive will be in before dark, so I close that tab back up and check on them in the morning. If there's no fury at the entrance, I remove the robbing screen. If it looks like they're being attacked again, I close them up for 24 hrs. That has worked well for me. I love the design of those traps. I wish they made them for NUCS! Good luck!

Sharon I've been thinking the exact same thing. Nuc entrance fittings would be great! Thanks for sharing.

We got really lucky Gary. It looks like it might have been an extremely strong late hatch of our Saskatras variety. They have the lowest might count but didn't really produce much of any honey.

It sure looks like the BB came out of the hive. They are hard for the honey bees to kill. Since the HBs were trying to get in they didn't bother with attacking the BB - maybe. With that much pollen coming in I think you were seeing orientation flights with some BB looking for a free snack. What do you think? I had a hive yesterday doing orientation flights also.

Sir I think you nailed it. After really thinking about it I came to the same conclusion. Just a happy guess on my part. Thank you Mr. K.

I'm not 100% convinced that is robbing but you saw them before the robbing screen was put on. In about a half hour to one hour you should know for sure.

Phillip good catch! Part of me suspects that it was an orientation flight and robbing at the same time. I was pretty much shocked that the queen bumblebee came out of there seemingly unscathed. Good catch! Thanks brother.

Hi Mike. Is that the only colony being robbed? Also, are they smaller then the other hives? Hope it works out for you

No other robbing which makes me think... Honestly it almost looks like an orientation flight too. I kind of suspect it might be both. Thanks 👍
