What a beautiful voice, so well spoken and great diction. Wish Robert got to do the audio for his memoir, book was real good but all i heard was his voice❤

Yep- the pilot (originally filmed in color, and later expanded into a 1964 theatrical feature, "To Trap A Spy") was bought by NBC for the fall of '64, with a change in title {and supervisors [Leo G. Carroll replaced Will Kuluva in the series]}. And Chevrolet was impressed enough to buy half-sponsorship of the first season.

We need the U.N.C.L.E since they were truly interested in thwarting crime.

When the pilot was filmed, the villainous organization was called Thrush. For To Trap a Spy, the word "Wasp" was dubbed in. But if you watch the actors' lips, they are saying Thrush. Thrush was *not* an acronym during the pilot. One of the tie-in novels (The Dagger Affair) came up with Thrush as acronym. Fans argue whether Technological Hierarchy, etc. is canon or not.

The pilot with Will Kuluva has ben aired on occasion. He was a good actor and was replaced by a fluke when some network idiot said he didn't like "that K guy", meaning Illya, but was misconstrued. So we got Leo G instead, but keeping Illya probably did a lot ot make the show successful.

Who was the intended audience for this spot? Was it shown to the public?

Network executives and potential sponsors were the likely targets.

I have a first-draft script for The Double Affair (first-season episode) where the villainous organization was called MAGGOT.
