Good evening! We're back in England for this evening's walk, in one of the most picturesque villages on the entire Yorkshire coast, the legendary Robin Hood's Bay! With its labyrinth of alleys and countless cottages, Bay is absolutely crammed with history, and there's one little thing that I didn't get the chance to mention in this video! Just outside the Old Coastguard Station is the RNLI Fish, a small iron fish statue from 1886 which is both the smallest listed building in the UK, and the oldest lifeboat collection box in the world! A specific pair of titles there, but just another example of the rich heritage of this gorgeous village :)

My parents took us children there when we were young-(1974). I would love to revisit this enchanting village. My father is from Yorkshire (Cleckheaton) / Tadcaster area and he gave us a wonderful tour of Yorkshire. So many historic and interesting places to see and he people are wonderful. It is like walking through a history book. Love the secret passage walkways and the amazing stone work. Makes me tear up when I see this. I remember being here with Dad and Mom. We had a picnic on the beach. I could live here in a heart beat. It is so expensive to buy property in Britain compared to Canada. I pray that England will always protect their heritage and history. Absolutely Enchanting! :) Thank you for sharing.

Great video. I recall visiting RH Bay over sixty years ago. That was well before the sea wall was built. I was disappointed not to see bullseye windows in the cottages. My mother found a cottage which was for sale at a really cheap price so we headed to the real estate's office to get the key for a look inside. It still looked a good buy, but the back door being locked was a puzzle. Eventually we were able to have it opened, to learn why it was for sale so cheap. There was a drop into the sea below, with little or nothing to see what was supporting the house!! I enjoyed seeing the narrow alleyways and wish I'd explored them more. Keep up the good work. Thanks. David

I’ve been visiting the Jurassic Yorkshire Coast since 2014 at least once every year and this year was unfortunately the first year we had to give Bay a skip because our old dog definitely wouldn’t make it up the hills. Really enjoyed this video - it brings the place alive. Often we hear about the maze of alleyways etc that the smugglers used but its much better when someone takes the trouble to walk round them all so we can actually see what they are like - thanks for doing that. I realise that there is probably no answer to this point but it occurred to me while watching this video - if the authorities were so aware of the smuggling - why did they not try to intercept the illegal goods on the outskirts of the village when they were being transported the 20 miles to Pickering. This would have been far easier than trying to catch them in the seemingly endless streets and alleyways of the village. See what you've done - you thought you were just making a video to entertain but you've opened up a whole new way of looking at Robin Hood's Bay, ha ha. Thanks again - it's good to get the brain working and not just the eyes when watching your videos.

Ha ha thank you very much! That's a really nice comment that I'm very grateful to read, you make some very interesting points about the riveting and lively history of Robin Hood's Bay! In answer to your question, I suppose the geographical isolation of Bay in a remote part of the moors meant there weren't the resources for the authorities to sit and wait for smugglers to come out from beneath the cliffs, particularly as much smuggling was done under the cover of darkness :) Perhaps they could have done the catching in Pickering, but maybe by then smugglers would be indistinguishable from traders! Thank you so much for your very kind words and for that thought-provoking comment - it's made my day :)

I haven't been here in close to 20 years. I'd gone on a break with my brother and his family to Pickering and we had to go to the Bay where my brother and me, and our two sisters, had spent many a happy visit. The trek down to the beach seemed interminable, and I certainly wouldn't be able to handle it now, not with needing a wheeled walker, and oxygen cylinder, to get around. Thank you for pointing that out! I didn't manage to film it up close simply because it slipped my mind as I walked past, but indeed it is there just below the Old Coastguard Station :)

Ha ha I don't see why not! Though I'd be thoroughly impressed if all those centuries of loot haven't picked up by now - perhaps there are some hidden stashes in the caves along the beach :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!

Ha ha that sounds like a very idyllic window back into the recent past of Bay! It's a gorgeous village with real character as I'm sure you know though, so thank you very much for watching the video - I really hope you enjoyed it :)
