One day.... how long is the waiting list for these? I do not want this just because I love it, but because it is literally the perfect tool for my job over the summers. I clear brush, down trees, blaze trails, ect.. in the 100 mile wilderness in Maine. This would save so much weight on my load out and cut out so much time. I carry a Hudson Bay ax, larger machete, USMC sized fixed blade, and a small fixed blade or bigger folder. This would replace my machete and midsize fixed blade easily. It could also take out my ax, but I would keep that for beating through the dead stuff and tress that are not worth walking back to grab my chain saw for. The only thing I would have to worry about is the rusting, since I am in the middle of Maine, I am always around a lake or stream, and I often have to be on boats. I am good at cleaning them down after use, but I may be a few hours in the field, and then a few hours to get back to my cabin. It would be awesome suited for me in CPM 3V, a bit better corrosion resistance to the level I am used to, and a better edge holding with the sacrifice of a little strength, so maybe a slightly thicker grind... lol what ever it will be. Horribly out of my budget now. I may go for a Swamp Rat Rodent 9 soon, which is an improvement over what I have, but still high on my budget, and is no where close to your Excalibur. One day I will get my hands on one of these.

I know S7 is tough, does it hold and edge as a chopper? How is it to grind compared to AEB-L?
@gavkoo
11 жыл бұрын
its more then great edge holding for the chopper. i was actually pleasantly surprised because i didnt expect lot of edge holding from it, but since choppers work very much different way then regular knives, my knifechete for example after tons of work still slices printing paper easily...

Lol!! I'd hate to be that tree!! Been meaning to ask you, is your " GAV" logo on the blades n your other items ground (made by a rotary or tool free-hand) or do you have a hammer-stamp?

Hey Mike, I was breaking small wheels with my TW-90 as well. I talked to Travis and he said that the bader wheels can't handle the rpm above 50%. Ever since I slowed the grinder down I have yet to break another. Just a FYI. Love your blades brother. Keep up the great work.
@gavkoo
11 жыл бұрын
i knew about that speed issue. travis told me about it when i bought mine. the thing(i think) is that even at lower speeds i need to be pressing pretty hard to make that rock pattern and i think its just little too much for those thin walled metal bodies on the small diameter wheels. that 1/2 wheel is made literaly out of sheet metal lol.

Joshua Fightmaster yeah exactly, i can push real hard and actually even at 50% or higher speed on my 1" and that holds great. but those have thicker walls, larger bearings and thicker shaft...

5:18 Pretty, but I gotta ask . . whats up with the jagged finish on the spine ? It doesnt look like a saw serration, and S7 is too hard for it to have been someone beating the spine with a mallet to split branches and leaving dings, so I can only assume it's a deliberate aesthetic ... but the effect makes the spine looks fugly and abused from a distance.

While the rock pattern isn't my personal cup of tea, you make it work great with the whole package. It does look good with the tiger stripe and the sheath done up like that. Reminds me I have to get off my ass and upload the video I took of taking down a small tree with my Excalibur.
