@GaryDmedia

+isitebuild I know what you mean. I can't count the number of times it has happened to me. It is good that you can remove the windsock if you need to hide it under clothing but if you only use the mic with it attached, I would suggest using very thin double sided tape. Cut a small piece and wrap the mic with it and refit the windsock. A more permanent solution would be a thin wipe of silicon taking care not to get any on the capsule end or on the windsock foam itself. The tape may be a good start.

I imagine a have Rode smartlav + lav mic. It has a grey mini jack plug. Be sure to plug it right in. Sometimes your phone case can stop the plug being inserted right in. Reboot the phone from completely switched off. Plug in the lav mic, and then open the Rode Rec app or camera app and make a recording. Remember that you will have to remove the smartLav from the iPhone to listen to your recording because with it in the speakers are switched off.

So only started recently looking into Lavalier mics and might be easy to find but what if you wanted to record with a lavalier mic when streaming? Would it have to just be plugged straight to the computer or is there like a bluetooth receiver or something?
@GaryDmedia
7 жыл бұрын
+clawhammr666 There are a number of mics that plug straight into a computer. The problem is getting the correct mini jack type to suit your audio input. If you have a single mic/ earphone jack like on a mobile phone the smartLav+ mic will plug straight in. If you have separate mic and headphone jacks you will need another type. First do a little research on what type of plug you need and you will be well on your way to choosing the best mic.

You you try using the R0DE rec app for the iPhone? That app has only a 2.0 star rating with a lot of complaints. There are some KZitem reviews that specify that certain settings need to be changed in the app, such as the iPhone audio compression has to be turned off. If you used the R0DE rec app for the iPhone, did you experience any problems? If you used a different app for recording, which app did you use?
@GaryDmedia

If you use the app as it's designed to be used it's great. I have had no issues with it. It is always a good idea to go into settings and switch off apples intelligent processing of audio as its primary use is for phone conversations not recording a single mic. Hope that is of help.

The smartLav plus is wired for a mobile device input. It has a grey plug. It could be used with the Rode wireless go but you would need the adapter lead. +Ofir Rahamim That would be a fantastic mic to have but I'm afraid not. Lav mics will pick up basically everything around you but there is a key answer to your problem. Reduce the distance between the mic and your mouth and you will significantly reduce the level of background noise. Rode microphones make a head frame for their smartLav mic: Link to head frame amzn.to/2iqlcxo This is why mics in aircraft are so close to the pilots mouth. The only mics that reject sound from the sides and back are cardioid or hypercardioid pattern microphones but generally they have to be put in a mic stand. Hope that help explain it.

Hi Gary. I thank you for responding to my questions. Not too many people do that for those of us inquiring about things. I have one question that's not related to this video but you've been good to answer previous questions so I'm going to ask you this question as well. And it's concerning npf batteries. I have a collection of 960 npf batteries and I'm concerned about the safety of these because I've heard of fires being started with these lithium ion batteries. Is this something I should be concerned about? Are there precautions I should take while storing npf lithium ion batteries? I've heard stories of Home Fires being started with Lithium-ion batteries so naturally I'm concerned but no one is responding to my questions on KZitem, even with videos about these exact type of batteries. Thank you Gary.
@GaryDmedia
4 жыл бұрын
Yes a good question Rick, lithium ion batteries are a volatile mix of chemicals. Thin membranes separate these layers to keep them apart. Any damage to the battery can cause them to leak and cause a fire. In saying this, they are some of the best batteries we have around. Think about it like this, buy quality batteries and lower the risk of faults. Cheap batteries are the cause of most lithium ion fires. Be sure not to leave them on charge, and never store them where the terminals can be shorted.

@@GaryDmedia Once again, Thank you. Yes, new to this and on a budget, I have purchased a bunch of cheap npf knockoff batteries at a fraction of the cost of the true Sony npf batteries! I do store each one in its own original box, each separate from one another though. I use them to run my LED lights. Is so much easier than running chords all over the place. Thank you so much for your professional information. I will now start replacing them with better quality batteries. I am amazed that there's not more information about that in the KZitem photography/ videography Community.

Hello, I am looking for a mic for our wedding. It will be on a island and we are thinking of using this mic with either a smartphone or laptop then broadcasting through a bluetooth speaker. Can someone tell me if this is a good idea or not? thanks
@GaryDmedia
7 жыл бұрын
+Kent Black On a special day like a wedding I would definitely have a more reliable setup. Using a lav mic for a PA is not a good option. The other problem you will run into is feedback. I would suggest a small mains or self powered PA on a stand with a cordless or corded mic on a stand. Hope that helps and all the best for your wedding.

+Alex Soprano I'm not sure about the wiring of the Surface tablet. The smartLav+ is the same wiring as an iPhone headset. If you know an iPhone headset should work and it is not then it must be a software issue. Sorry I can't be more of a help.

Hello. I have recently purchased this mic and its app for iphone but I am having a hard time recording a clean sound. In most cases, there is no difference between the sound I record with a built-in iphone mic and the one recorded with smartlav+. Why is that? What am I doing wrong? The sound that I record is so small, I need to volume all the way up on my computer to be able to hear it at a comfortable level.. Thanks a lot in advance!
@GaryDmedia

+Natalia Davydova that's not good at all. Are you using the smartLav+ and the RODE Rec app to record audio only?
@GaryDmedia
9 жыл бұрын
+Natalia Davydova The microphone in most phones today pick up very good sound but the problem you have is that when you record video and audio you usually are not close enough to the phone for it to receive a clear audio signal. With the lavalier you can get the mic a lot closer to pick up your voice. I make a practise of tapping or brushing the mic with my finger to confirm that the phone has picked up that the mic is plugged in. Most phones now switch to the inbuilt microphone if it can't confirm there is a computable microphone plugged in. If you use a an incompatible adaptor lead the phone won't switch to the external mic. If you have confirmed that all is well with your connections and your test recordings are still not satisfactory send an email to RODE. Their service is outstanding and they are very keen for us to be satisfied with their products. Hope this is of some help.

Simple Audio Tips Well first of all I'm actually trying to plug this into a laptop instead of a smartphone. This is what I'm trying to record with here: www.mymyk.com/content/uploads/2012/03/Carousel_SportsMyk.jpg And I'm trying to plug it into my second input. It has a logo with a mic on it so I'm assuming that's the right spot to plug it into to. It does fit however nothing is showing up that it's actually connected to the laptop. I was thinking it could be a hardware problem..? Not too sure unfortunately.

Newbix Gaming Sorry to hear you are having difficulty with connecting your mic, I know how frustrating that can be. Maybe this will help: right click on the speaker icon (Windows 7) and select recording devices. Once the box comes up your mic should appear in the list.Select the mic if it appears and then click on properties.You will then have access to the tab that allows you to boost the audio. This is of course if your mic is actually working with the computer system you have. I may even do a video of this in the future because I think a lot have the same issues. This link may help as well. How to Configure Your Microphone in Windows 7

Newbix Gaming Sorry to hear that, The only thing I can suggest now is to check it on another computer to confirm it. I did notice that the mymic unit has a voltage requirement of between 1.5 and 10 volts www.mymyk.com/index.php/sportsmyk/specifications/ The computer may not be providing enough voltage for the mic. Sorry I have not been of more help. I hope that you get a resolution for your problem.

+meddice Thanks for subscribing it is a real support. Happy to assist if I can. Some of the early models of iOS devices may not run recording apps as well as the newer versions. First confirm that the mic records well on your iPod. You may find that it would be better to use your iPhone or Android device to record. If you have an iPhone 5 or later I would recommend the RODE Rec app by +rodemic. It is worth the $7 or so.
