12:00 for those who watched HISHE 5 years ago. Emperor-Okay, I'm only going to ask this once, are there any exhaust ports that go directly to the main reactor on this new Deathstar? Because that was a huge error last time and I don't want to blown up again by some lucky torpedo. Random Worker-No sir, no exhaust ports this time. Completely new design. Emperor-Excellent. Random Worker-Yes, this time there's an even larger opening. So large an entire ship can fit through. Emperor-Excel...what???
@James35142

It was still under construction. If it had been completed there would be no way for a ship to get to the reactor. The DS II death star, the one shown in this film, has micro exhaust ports so they also couldn't pull another exhaust port shot. They were just lucky they got to it while it was still under construction.

Empire may be the best of all these movies, but ROTJ will always be my favorite one to watch. Because of Disney, we will never really get to see exactly what an awesome Jedi master Luke turned out to be. So this movie is the closest thing we will ever get of that. I refuse to accept that the great Luke died of some bizarre Jedi stroke while engaging in a remote, holographic lightsaber battle with a real person. So, to me, the franchise ended at ROTJ. And unlike most movie buffs, I actually appreciate loose ends being tied up. RTOJ tied up every possible loose end there was. And I loved it. That is perhaps the greatest reason why I can watch this movie over and over again and never get tired of it.

12:01- OBJECTION! The reason why there are so many giant tunnels leading to the Death Stars core, is simply because, it isn't done yet. It is still under construction, thats why it needs the force field on Endor to protect it. It should be obvious from the second Death Star's look from afar. 13:15- You do realize that the lazers are only mounted to the FRONT of the speeder bikes??? The reason that the ships were able to fly right into the centre of the second Death Star is NOT because it was a flawed design, but rather because it was STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Had the Death Star been completed, not only would the ships not have been able to fly right into its centre, but the thermal exhaust port which was the fatal flaw of the original, would have been redesigned to prevent the new Death Star from being destroyed by a lucky shot with a torpedo.

T Bone it was protected, by the shield generator on Endor. As Luke said, The Emperor’s overconfidence was his weakness. He had anticipated that the rebels would attack the shield generator, but never considered the possibility that his troops would lose. He also had the workers focus on installing The Death Star’s weapon systems rather than building the outer walls of the battle station. But he had become impatient and insisted on The Death Star being able to destroy planets first before eliminating any vulnerabilities.

@Thundarr100
2 жыл бұрын
T Bone it’s not a design oversight when the is only 2/3 completed. The design itself was improved, but an improved design doesn’t help much if the thing is incomplete. Imagine building a car from scratch. You’ve got the chassis, the doors, the steering, the seats, the engine, the fenders, etc. Now things like the doors, the hood, the trunk, the fenders, etc, aren’t necessary to make the car drivable. All you really need is the engine, the wheels, the steering, the seats, and a few other things and you can be driving around the neighborhood. You’d look ridiculous, and the car won’t protect you from the heat/cold or from flying insects, but you will be able to drive it. That’s what The Emperor’s priority was with the new Death Star. To make it functional before any cosmetic stuff like the outer shell is completed. But if he had allowed the things he deemed “less important” to be done first, then the rebel ships wouldn’t have been able to fly right into the centre of the Death Star and blow it up.
@felynecomrade

Not that big a plot hole. It took about 20 years to get the 1st Death Star past the prototype stage and construct (and crew) a full working model. And once you've made one thing, it's easier to modify it and build another. As for the First Order's Starkiller Base, it's been about 20 years for them to design and build a modified superlaser and hyperdrive system to install on an actual moon, rather than build the entire thing from scratch. (Comparing the canon Visual Dictionary map with the Legends one reveals that Starkiller base was probably either Ilum or one of its moons, and the base's official size would discount the actual planet.) That's assuming that the design stage wasn't started during the time of the Empire.
@Kartissa
7 жыл бұрын
Ilum is the planet where most of the rare crystals the Jedi used for their lightsabers came from. If the plot hole is 'not enough rare crystals', then Starkiller Base is built on a planet full of them! I fail to see the problem there.
@Kartissa
7 жыл бұрын
The fact that there *is* a planet full of rare crystals that the Jedi knew about answers the question of how the Empire managed to find enough for 2 Death Stars. After all, the Jedi Temple would have had records and information regarding them, which Anakin and Palpatine would have had access to. The hard part would have been mining them safely in sufficient amounts and sizes.
@Kartissa
7 жыл бұрын
Ilum *is* Legends canon, and while it wasn't the only place to find lightsaber crystals, it *was* considered the best. As for Sith crystals, they were artificially manufactured. Even in the new canon, there is apparently a story about Darth Maul spending days constructing the crystals for his saberstaff. Whether that will extend to his proposed solo movie remains to be seen.

Given that these movies are constantly put under the scope, your perspective on them has been refreshing to hear. 4:05 - "Why didn't Boba collect bounty on Chewbacca as well?" That is an insanely good question. May have to do with Mandalorian code of honor or something. I think he had more personal beef with Han, less so with Chewbacca. But I feel those two go hand-in-hand most of the time, so... I dunno. 8:40 - [Force kick; get out of here!] No arguments here. 12:43 - [Not Luke, give transport with old code a ticket.] Way to bring a sense of mundane life into Star Wars. Same goes for the "Imperial Coffeemaker" joke at 17:45.

Decker Shado Indeed. There was a bounty on Chewbacca. But. He was also a war criminal in the eyes of the Empire and all of this was a deal worked out between Vader, Lando, and Fett . Fett got his most important bounty( Solo). Vader got his bait and a pair of war criminals( Chewie and Liea) and Lando get his city not blown to atoms. All was designed to avoid outright conflict and get each some of what they wanted. Lando wanted his city intact and tried to get Liea and Chewie in his custody. Vader , who frankly held most of the cards here, got to set his trap and got his criminals. Fett got the resources of the Empire and the trap set via Vader's threats , at Bespin to capture Han. Nobody got everything that they wanted( though whether or not Vader really cared if Han was killed by the Empire or by Jabba is debatable). Fett very probably could not turn Chewie in to Jabba as it was part of his deal with Vader that he not get him.

It's Ironic; I spent last night refuting the opinions of a man who says that Return didn't have ENOUGH Spectacle, whereas Decker says it has too much. I'm personally of the camp that too much spectacle in movies is a bad thing as it tends to eclipse or overshadow the substance. And in a lot of ways...I can somewhat agree with Decker that Return has a little too much Spectacle going for it. The substance is fine, I just wish we had more of it; the opening scene with Jabba's Palace on Tatooine is interesting and great to watch, but it feels disconnected from the overall plot of the movie, and feels more like a side-quest that would've been better suited in a Star Wars spin off movie; but then, the fans probably would be dissatisfied that Han Solo's rescue played no part in the overall story. If only there was some way to bridge the two events together; like say, Jabba was providing slave labor to the Empire to build the Death Star, and that's how the Rebels found out about it. Eh?

The big hole weakness in second death star make sense, it was meant to be a trap, so the target should have look vulnerable and for long enough for them to stick around long enough for the trap to sprang, why they put a shield too to protect it with more force than supposed to defend both the death star and the shield generator, and it would have worked if it wasn't for the Ewoks. But yeah also they had to make them to rush into the trap too, so if they think the big weakness will be blocked any time soon. Every time Vader uses his psychic powers, he spouts out something the character knows, as if he's reading the mind rather than just summoning knowledge (like Luke did in the second film). So with Leia not even knowing she's force sensitive, let alone Luke's sister (and doesn't even know Luke exists), it's quite obvious why Vader didn't know she was his daughter. The most glaring plot hole when it comes to the family bond is that in the first film, Vader blatantly tries to blast Luke while in the trench, showing less emotion than when he choked people. He had a lock-on, he pressed the trigger, but another ship crashed into his when Solo shot the third ship. If he was so concerned about his son, knowing it was his son, being able to sense his son, then why would he try to kill his son?

So when the Rebels first meet the ewok say capture them and attempt to cook and eat them. When they defeat the Stormtroopers there's a huge feast, and empty stormtrooper armor laying about... So we can assume that everybody had BBQ stormtrooper for dinner that night?

Also, I've always wondered why Yoda tells Luke in ESB he had to stay to complete his training, but in ROTJ he tells him that he doesn't need anymore training. In ESB he tries to prevent him from going off to confront Vader so he could continue his training, but here he says that he must confront the Emperor in order to become a Jedi. Not only that, but he tries to stop Luke from rushing off to rescue Leia in ESB, then says there is another hope in the form of the "other". But in ROTJ he says that Leia IS the other! Rushed script in order to quickly wrap up the plot makes continuity errors, me thinks?

Luke was still practicing everything he knew for a full year. Luke's training regiment was a heavily specialized and condensed training program designed to train him in the fastest amount of time possible.

I can see where accusing George of 'retcon' because Vader couldn't sense Leia was his daughter, but I don't agree. The convoluted attempt to make logic-leaps to explain it was superfluous as the movie gave an apt explanation. Vader didn't even KNOW he had a daughter and the only reason he discovered it was because LUKE gave it away with his "feelings." Vader has no clue WHO Luke's sister is, but would have tried to find out had he survived. The Prequel trilogy and the Sequel trilogy REALLY pulled the retcon card to disastrous results.

I'm guessing the half nude Twilek was meant to ensure the PG rating, because I wore out so many copies of that movie as a teen frame by framing through that sequence.

I may not be in the majority here but I have always considered this the best of the Star Wars films. What can I say? I like proper conclusions. On the second Death Star though I always figured that they could only fly into the reactor because it wasn't finished, that if the superstructure had been completed there would have been no gaps.

Vader didn't have his lightsaber anymore when he killed the Emperor though, it fell along with his robotic hand when Luke chopped it off.

In all honesty the rancor was just an innocent pet. Actually in one of the books we find out that the rancors handler made a deal with another crime boss to steal the rancor and send him to dathomir. But at the last second luke shows up and kills him

Those Ewoks are so cute. They were clearly added for kids to enjoy. They were also in an animated series spinoff as well as two spinoff movies.

"They were clearly added for kids to enjoy" And that right there is the exact reason why so many people hate them- but also the same reason why so many people love them. I personally don't mind them, but I figure they could have been shown as less VITAL to overthrowing the Empire, because it does make the villains seem a little silly by comparison.
