Just picked up a JX-3P with the Kiwi 3P mod a few months ago and a Retroaktiv controller and having a ton of fun with it. My Juno-60 needs a rebuild, so this was the cheaper alternative and I love how fat the sounds are. Still kicking myself for selling my Jupiter 8 in 1996, but this synth has so much potential I'm just starting to discover that is finally making up for that decision. Thanks for sharing your patches. They sound great!

I enjoyed listening to your patches here :-) JX-3P… my 1st poly synth, purchased in the fall of '83. God i loved that thing! I've got 45 synths now (52 if you count the TX-816 as 8 synths)… and of those I have some favorites for sure, but none enriched my life the way the 1st 3 years with the JX-3P did. I haven't had my original JX-3P since '89, but i have an MKS-30… so I've got that sound covered.

Thanks, I forgot how nice the organ patches on this were. Crazy thing, I forget how this was possible, but somehow, through midi input and perhaps some type of mod I purchased (many, many) years ago, the JX I once had, long since sold, could respond to incoming velocity! It was a next level experience hearing the JX with velocity influencing its filters, resonance, etc. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

synthartist69 Not really, my band mostly played cheesy ballads so my sound pallette was mostly soft pads. I bought the Juno in 1985 for about FF6500 (£650) and the JX a year later for about FF4000 (I never liked it much). At the time, everybody wanted a DX7 and fairly recent analog polysynths were appearing on the second-hand market. I later replaced them both with a JX8P+PG800 and a Korg DW8000. When I moved to England in 1990, I let them both go for a (partly broken) Korg M1. I still can't forgive myself!

I know that feeling! I remember in the late 80's everyone wanted the next best piano sound with a digital lcd. That was state of the art..... people were almost throwing away analogs.... unreal

My first synth was the Juno 106! It was delivered to my local music store on a Friday afternoon (brand new) and I made the commitment that afternoon to buy it. They offered it for $1500 with a Peavey guitar amp to plug it into. My mom co-signed on a loan so I could get it and then I spent two years working a part-time job to pay it off. I was 15 at the time. I had to trade it for a Casino CZ101 a few years later when I joined the Navy due to a lack of space on my ship. Now, I have a JX3P, JX8P and a Fantom G6, but still haven't been able to replace my 106....YET! I sure miss her.

The synth strings on this are great. I did the detune between the 2 oscillators to create a chorus effect, then added chorus on the controller , and ran it through a Roland delay in stereo for even a thicker chorus. Nothing sounds like it.

This thing is seriously underrated. It's only downside is editing but I got Midi Quest 13 Pro yesterday because the Kiwi update is too complex; It does the job. Never selling this thing. A noteworthy remark is the filter resonance mod. Google for it. It comes down to turn some screws on the boards to get more resonance. I felt the filter had too little of it. I love it now.

The only issue in getting the original is that you will need the editor as well. But I believe you cant use it over midi at the same time as editing the sounds when using the editor. The original sounds better but I think if you ran the boutique through a guitar pedal and maybe an analogue chorus it would sound very close.
@Novaheart1998
6 жыл бұрын
I have both. Dreamy 😀 the boutique sounds exactly the same. Its nice to have the original synth tho, If you can afford it get both. You will need a PG-200 to get the most fun out of the original and those are hard to get and pricey. I have one and it is way more fun to program with one. The boutique is basically an updated PG-200 with JX sound engine built in 😀 with a few extra features.

From your patches, would you say that the jx3p is not thin compared to the Juno as many people say on forums, provided you know what you're doing with the programming?
@synthartist69

It's thinner than the Juno 60, not thinner than the 106. But understand that the 60 is Super Fatt with the chorus engaged! Nonetheless, the JX3p can be a great sounding synth.

Which external FX are you using? IMHO the JX-3P really begins to shine when you add a good delay, a reverb when the sound calls for it. or even another chorus. With a good phaser, it can also act as substitute for a Jarre-ish string machine. Here are demos of some of my custom patches: soundcloud.com/spotlightkid/sets/roland-jx-3p-sound-demos
