theres a certain irony about digital books being considered to be killing off books since many ancient books are only readable in digitally archived form because they are too fragile to be used or are decaying to a point beyond restoration and preservation

+ChaosSandwhich So? What about modern stories? If I can buy a book, I will. Unless I don't really care about the story. We live in such a convenience over quality society. You don't actually own the story. You're paying to get access to a file. No thanks. I'll pay a bit extra to actually own something.
@leadcloud8290

As long as old books can be scanned for digital archives, you can paper-print scanned copies. Where I find digital books the most useful is doing researches. You buy access to a digital archive, and you get all the information you can only otherwise get from ordering ALL the paper-copy journals, which can be literally in the tons.

@@kylewhitehead5975who cares tho? It’s a story, i don’t need to “own” it. 😂 i just need to enjoy it. If you ask me, recording stories on print is a convenience, the majority of stories have been oral, and printing them is a fairly modern convenience. Like is to too hard to travel to listen to someone tell a story? Surely the most important reason you’d pick a book over traveling to an orator is no less about convenience than wanting a digital version of a book in print😂

I love 'real' books, I love the smell of old books, I love bookshops... but as someone with limited living space in a damp and mouldy environment, an electronic book reading device makes much more practical sense. However, I don't own one as I love 'real' books too much to replace them!
@ophelias4172

I have to say I much prefer the real book over the e-book. They cost the same as hard copy and a real book doesn't make your eyes feel weird. I think there will always be a market for books and I'm not really worried about bookshops disappearing.

Ophelia S I agree, I think paper books will be with the human race for a long while yet! I can never feel as comfy with an electronic device as I can with a book. When it's raining outside, and I'm tucked up with a hot water bottle, a cup of tea beside me, I want a well-thumbed paper book to hold, not a lump of metal, glass and plastic.

That is a lovely evening curling up with a book. The upside with ebooks, I've found, is you can take lots of ebooks on holiday so it's a lot less space. Plus if you can't find it as a paperback, chances are it's there as an ebook. I have a tendency to leave paperbacks round the house and then have no place to put them. Mind you, I've got that with my Kindle. I've no idea where it's gone and the battery's properly flat now lol. That's saying something considering I'm a writer and I haven't had time to read lately :P

Katharine Budd Now the weather is colder here it seems even more appealing :-) I know what you mean; electronic readers seem much more convenient for space and accessibility. I leave books everywhere too; I think I'd be like you and misplace an electronic one if I had one! How interesting that you're a writer. What sort of thing do you write, if you don't mind my asking?

People should stop letting context get in the way, theyre just flavors, a pizza is just a sort of bread that you put stuff on and cook, same with a sandwich or a burger pretty much, or a taco, dont let some preconception determine what should go in them. Salt and heat enhances flavors, sweet and savory in the right proportion go well together, like salted caramel, and ... what do you call it? Chinese takeout? A number of those have sweet sauces. It can add a nice little sort of balance and complexity

I love this show and I know it's just for fun. But when people say they 'hate' e-books, please remember that storing and transporting large quantities of paper books is expensive, and not everyone can afford it. E-books are a great way to enable less fortunate members of society (myself included) to get an education, and enjoy literature, that they would not otherwise have access to.
