I had one for many years. It was the most accurate snub-nosed .38 I'd ever shot and still holds that rank, though I no long own it. I wish I could find out who bought it from the dealer I sold it to - I'd offer them a pretty fair premium to get it back. I dry-fired it, like a dumb-a**, and the hammer nose (firing pin) broke off, just like the instruction manual said it would. I had a gunsmith fit a Smith and Wesson hammer nose on it and it ran like a champ forever after.

I have one just exactly like it imported by Interarms. FYI...it is NOT rated for +P ammo unless their is writing on your barrel indicating it is. This revolver was Rossi's attempt to "clone" an S&W old model 60 (I think).

@robertsansone1680

Sir, please forgive me if I sound like a typical know-it-all KZitem Butt-Head who loves telling people they are wrong, but you are incorrect. I am only trying to inform. The transfer bar was invented in the 1890s by the Iver Johnson Company. (The Fryberg Patent) S&W came out with their "Hammer Block" safety in 1902 & Colt came out with their own version of the hammer block in 1905. The two systems are "equal but opposite". With the transfer bar, the hammer never contacts the frame mounted firing pin. Only when the trigger is in the most rearward position does the transfer bar move upward to sandwich in between the hammer & firing pin allowing the firing pin to move forward. ("Hammer The Hammer" as the I.J. adds used to say) With a transfer bar the firing pin has to be mounted in the frame. With the hammer block system, the hammer block is sandwiched between the frame & hammer preventing the hammer from moving forward enough to fire the revolver. Only when the trigger is in the most rearward position does the hammer block move downward & allow the hammer to move forward enough to fire the revolver. It doesn't matter if the firing pin is mounted in the hammer or frame with this system. If I remember correctly, the Colt Python has a frame mounted firing pin & a hammer block system. It was the 1968 Gun Control Act which required imported revolvers to have a "positive safety". I have a 1981 Guns & Ammo Revolver Disassembly/Repair book. According to the parts diagram, Rossi revolvers had a hammer block safety. I hope I have been informative.

In the early Eighties Rossi made cheap near copies of U.S. products. By the Nineties, their quality had greatly increased. I had a small frame stainless Rossi .38. (I think it was a model 88) It was a near copy of a Smith Chief Special. I also had a Chief Special in which to compare quality. The Smith was definitely better but the Rossi wasn't bad & it was a whole lot cheaper. I let a neighbor talk me out of it & I wish I still had it. Thanks for the interesting video.

I have two marked, Rossi-Interarms revolvers. And I have another Rossi-BrazTech marked revolver. They appear to be "close" to being a copy of S&W revolvers. But, that being said....1st off.....the grips do not interchange. Well, maybe if they were modified. So, it's likely that the other parts may need some modifications too. Anyway, the reason why I purchased my Rossi vs. that "other brand" is because.....any gunsmith who knows their way around a S&W should be able to do an action/trigger job on a Rossi. Expose the internals of that other brand and you'll see what I mean.

I have heard you can occasionally use some + p rounds Through it ..But not a steady diet of high pressure rounds. Also .. These series where made on S&W machinery under contract. I have a rossi model 685, does anyone know what year it was made? It's a 5 shot, 38 special. It can handle 158 grain rounds rated at 968 fps, ft-lbs 329, and handles them fine. I've noticed some older plus p rounds made by remington 125 grain sjhtp have a lower ft-lbs, and the grain is lower but I'm certain it can handle those plus p rated rounds I have man. Hope the advice or input helps on the plus p round question. Use plus p round man, there isn't a big difference between the pressure with most rounds unless it's a specialty round that's like 200 grains.
