I’ve been thinking of doing this with the 6.5 Grendel version. I’ll most likely use a 1x8 LPVO on the factory mount. No real reason for a forward mounted IER scope if you don’t have a stripper clip guide. Love the cheek riser. Nice job!!

This is one sweet build. What size height are those rings? Looking to do something similar with the QD mount but since I don’t have a long eye relief scope I would need it to sit above the rear peep

It’s a nice set up, and obviously something that should be offered by Ruger. I’m not sure if it was Jeff Cooper’s original intent to have the iron sites co- witnessed?? It would make sense, but I don’t know.

how did the rail affect your accuracy? i'm afraid of screwing up my barrel harmonics and going over 1MOA

Not at all. It’s at the thickest part of the barrel, just ahead of the chamber. Still a 5 shot 1 MOA shooter.

Hello, l am seriously considering this rifle. Why not lose the bipod it is just unnecessary weight on a rifle with a 16" barrel. I have a cz527 7.62x39 carbine with irons and scope that is a very nicely setup, but it is for hunting not rough-houseing. I want something that can be knocked around a little without crying about it, thanks for the videos!!!
@cherrycitygunsandammo1011

Luckily the bipod is very easy and quick to take on and off. I think this is a great knock around gun. Thank you for the compliment.

After installing the skinner scout mount (anchoring it to the barrel) did you see any negative impact on accuracy or consistency?
@cherrycitygunsandammo1011
Жыл бұрын
Not with the ammunition I’ve been shooting. Still 1- 1 1/2” groups. 2” with some of the cheaper stuff. If 7.62x39 was more of a precision caliber shooting match ammo, maybe you’d see something. But on the other hand where it’s anchored is still fairly far back on the barrel where it’s still fairly thick and less prone to the harmonics being thrown off.

Thanks for the reply. My .308 18” American is sitting in a Magpul Hunter chassis currently with a Holosun AEMS. Keeping the weight down is tough as I gained a pound with the new stock- the ergonomics are infinitely better though and I can run aics 5/10rd mags with 100% feeding. I may still settle on a Leupold VX-freedom 3-9x40 which is only about 15oz total with rings. That would leave me room for a 45-offset rmr. But man- is that IER mount tempting.

@@tonywize5104 I wish I had an option of the magpul hunter stock, but it’s not compatible with the 7.62x39 variant because of the Ruger mini-30 magazine.

Copper didn't say it had to be a 308. He said it had to be able to take most game in north America, out to a certain distance. He thought a 30-30 was just about right. Take off your bipod and the weight is correct. Light, handy, compact, rugged, general purpose. Yup!! Now try a can and subsonic ammo. Dang near magic.
