I bought my Ruger P-90 .45 ACP 26 years ago and I still have it. I took those plastic grips off and added rubber hogue grips and it made a huge difference. Even though it's a tank, I love it.

Hey, Hop! About your 4506- I highly recommend re-springing it with an increased power spring from Wolff. I had the same "recoils like it hates you" problem with the first Model 1006 I owned. I ditched the first one I had because I couldn't hit shit with it. The recoil was incredibly sharp and the muzzle flip was unlike any pistol I've ever fired before, so I'm assuming it was severely undersprung. I carry my newer 1006 every once in a while when I'm in the woods, or just want something with more thump. Putting the increased power spring in it turned it from a mediocre shooter to the softest shooting 10mm I've ever fired, so I'd be willing to bet you'd experience a similar result if you put an increased power spring in your 4506. I love the content man, keep it up! I especially enjoy your videos about older handguns, like the Ruger P Series and such. Cheers!

Bought my P90 almost 20 years ago - still a great gun to shoot. It's heft and 'clunkiness' of the action makes it really easy on the hands to shoot. Everyone that shoots it enjoys it and has nice things to say about it. It's not a $1000+ gun, but it does the trick and is fun to shoot anytime.

The 8 rounder mags have a metal follower. In the P90, it could dig into the frame when removing the magazine. People switch it out to a plastic follower and spring from Wilson combat. It does however put the capacity at 7.

My personal gunsmith here in southeast Michigan was very close friends with Bill Ruger and worked with him on the P85 and P90 designs. He is probably the most connected human being that I've known with connections to Firearms industry around the world. Yes, some of the pistols came with rough trigger parts that made the trigger feel a little bit on the rough side. But some of them came out very fine. But they were always excellent functioning, but the P90 45 could at times be ammo sensitive. He is still alive and may be able to help with some of the details of these Pistols that some people might not know

Excellent video and quite informative!............I know this is a few years old but I feel obligated to comment. I bought P-90 about 6 years ago. Dove into the P series pretty hard. Good Stuff!. I bought my P-90 " new old stock" at a local gun shop. I already had a P-94 DC ( 9mm) and was salivating over the P-90 for a few weeks. I went from the gun shop I purchased it from, straight to the range. Had some feed issues, slowly worked through that shit and was happy to adapt to my new .45. Trijicon sights, EFK Dragonfire dual recoil spring setup. Polished ( by me ) feed ramp. Hogue grips. The little upgrades make nice personal changes. I have considered .45 super as a test platform using that EFK dual springy thingy, but have not ventured to the dark side yet. I doubt I have 500 rounds through this handgun. I feel quite comfortable carrying this handgun. Comparing the recoil impulse to other handguns is interesting. I even put ProMag springs and plastic followers in a Ruger Magazine body. The ( Devel,.. split lip?) metal followers were scratching the aluminum frame below the feed ramp, and that is why I wanted plastic followers. Ruger was no help, ProMag was very nice. Sent me extra shit too.

P90 was the first semi that I ever bought back in 1993. Such a boat anchor, but a real pleasure to shoot. Called it my Cadillac gun because the recoil was SO smooth. Definitely not a good option for concealed carry!

Biggest mistake I ever made was to sell my October 1992 Ruger KP90 which I did put the Hogue finger groove grips but I added the Pachmayr backstrap rubber piece. Wilson Combat made a Spring Kit for the P Series that worked Great on the P90 specially the when adding a Wolff Extra Power Recoil Spring when shooting 185gr JHP +P ammo, I used my P90 to shoot IDPA matches in the late 90s and early 2000s and I won my division often and it was funny specially when I was beating other people using SW, Sig and 1911s costing more than my little Ruger did. Now days I am the guy that has the nice 1911s and Sigs in his Range bag at the Matches. Watching your Video is making miss my P90 so much that I am going to look for one and buy it and put it together I used to carry it back in the mid 90s except I will add night sights to it!

I bot a Ruger P93 DAO in 1995 from a gun shop in Orlando, FL. I put one mag thru it at a range and decided to trade it at the next gun show. I did, for a Glock 17. It was the first time I shot a Glock and was an instant fanboy. I shot a Smith and Wesson 9mm once in Holopaw, FL out at the sand dune. Dude who owned it shot the Glock I had and also decided he liked the Glock better. Subliminally I knew the Ruger was an antiquated design but didn't associate it with Boomers until about 15 years later when I had my epiphany and came to terms about Boomers and their contributions to Western Civilization and how bad they had fucked up everything under the Sun.

I have had the P90DC for years. It is still my favorite go to pistol. (Probably just because I have shot it so much). Every time I pull the trigger it goes bang and the round goes where I want it. However something has started to go wrong with the front site. It is becoming invisible when looking through the back ones. Figure it is time to put a fancier one one. I see this one does have what I am looking for. I am having trouble tracking the front site down. ( at the store, not just on my pistol). Anyone have a link to send me in the proper direction? Love the video too. Your descriptive verbiage provide a great narrative. Will be looking for more. Thanks

The reason 8 rd magazines are not recommended for P90 is that the metal follower in 8 rounders tilts forward and gouges at the feed ramp when firing the last round.

Thanks..! Omg now I'm looking for a P94 with an integrated laser.. lol I just bought the TH9, haven't even unbox it yet, have the Millennium G2 and cannot hit the broadside of a barn with it, don't know if it's just me or I should probably just accept the fact that it's a good carry piece up close defense pistol, about the ergonomics , yes there must be an ergonomic genius working there a Taurus, the TH9 fits in my hand better than the G2, can't wait to unbox it maybe I'll do some short video reviews. Good job on your channel by the way .. searching for a nice Ruger now but I'm not sure if I'll be able to pick it up without memory tabs LOL 😎

These Ruger P8x are really underestimated. They are quite ugly and a tad oversized, but I found them to be very reliable, comfortable to shoot, with a nice trigger. Sadly they are quite rare this side of the pond. I've tried the Pachmayr grips on my P225, but as much they enhance the pistol gripability, it was not worth the trade-off in bulkiness. Nice review !

I really wish I knew which P series parts are interchangeable. There are people building P95's that want to know which slides will work, but I'm not sure exactly. I believe the P89 slides will work as long as they're the correct parts (decocker slide needs to go with decocker parts and regular slides need to go with regular parts)... and I believe the P94 and also the 944 models are compatible. According to this video, the P90 slide may also be possible to use also. It's really hard to know though... so I really hope other people try them and make a record of it. If anyone reads this and knows... please let me know. I try to know things like this, so I can help people whom may not have access to the more popular parts. (Like P95's are harder to come by, because people know they work with the kits... but the P89's work also, but they're easier to come by, because a lot of people don't know they're compatible.... so people with less money are able to afford them).

The P90 was my first pistol back in 1992. It was a fairly reliable gun. After 6 years and a couple of thousand rounds the magazine release spring broke, it actually sheared off. But the most memorable thing about the gun is the fact that it was dead nuts accurate. A year after purchase I acquired a Sig P229 in 40/357sig and an HK USP40. The P90 was just as accurate, if not more so. Unfortunately I never acquired another Ruger pistol except for the LC9 10 years ago that I never shot and is sitting in the safe brand new. My P90 was stolen out of my vehicle 23 years ago and I have been looking for another fullsized Ruger to replace it but never did. Though I have purchased many HKs and Sigs since. If I find a new in the box P90, I will immediately jump on it!
