Others and myself found, that the victory point calculation is bogus, too. There was the discussion, that the points for blockade and whatnot are doubled of you are at war with two countries, but even then the enemy gained too many points. Doubling the 100VP for dominating the area and 240VP for blockaded = +680 I'm quite sure it's a bug. In one game I dominated Italy as AH, won every battle, blockaded them every turn and somehow was down 10k vs. 40k victory points 🤷♂️

That's very reassuring to hear. Truly an uphill battle!

In my opinion you might need to group your ships in divisions to get bigger groups of ships in battles.

Reducing the ammo for secondaries are only 3 months when you rebuild, so thats an option instead of bulging.

You could check and see if any foreign shipyards have access to larger -1 quality guns than you do.

Another great episode, eventually there will come a winnable war where the battles are actually generated fairly!

*The Blue Bodewigeers* - A Green Mountaineers Parody by Erich Vogelweide - Year 199X - "Ho - all to the borders, Germans, come down, With your frock coats of wool and jackets of dark blue. With your felt caps and your boats come, To the enlistment summons of trumpet and drum! Come down with your rifle; let brown bear and rooster Howl on in the decks of primitive ships. Let them feed securely from our pig pen and stall, Here's a sea-legged game for your honour and pride And cheer, cheer, the Blue Bodewigeers! And cheer, cheer, the Blue Bodewigeers! On the East came the Russians, our land to police, And armed for the battle, while canting of peace. On our West came the French, the blue-coated band, To hang up our leaders and eat up our land! Ho - all to the rescue, for Satan, shall work, No game for the crews of Medusa, and CruDiv 13. They claim our possession, the pitiful knaves, The tribute we pay shall be prisons and graves! And cheer, cheer, the Blue Bodewigeers! And cheer, cheer, the Blue Bodewigeers! We owe our allegiance, we bow to the throne, Our ruler is law, and the law is our own. Our Captains themselves are our own fellow men, Who can handle the sail, and the gun, and the pen! Hurrah for Germany! For the land that we love Must have sons to defend her, from the coast and seas. Our vow is recorded, our banner unfurled, In the name of Germany, we defy all the world! And cheer, cheer, the Blue Bodewigeers! And cheer, cheer, the Blue Bodewigeers! And cheer, cheer, the Blue Bodewigeers!"

I think with the way aging machinery reduces ship speed now, even after refits, you REALLY need to re-analyze your view of rebuilding machinery. Think of it this way - yes, its expensive, but the alternative is minor refits on an increasingly useless ship or building new hulls. If you don't have the industrial capacity of WW2 US to build new hulls, then fully rebuild your damn ships to give them more-significant extensions to useful service life.

rebuilding machinery takes a lot of time, and costs significant amount of money, and you loose a lot of flexibility that you would have with fresh design. Also, you are likely to end up with smaller fleet as a result since you are upgrading ships rather then adding them to fleet (and you can always postpone retiring old ones), so it will be harder to blockade, but at the same time, lack of cutting edge ships will make your battles harder.

13:15 It would make sense that if you have a method to safely arm the shells you can install a more sensitive fuse that is less likely to be a dud when it hits the enemy ship while maintaining safe handling of the ammunition.

Considering the European alliances, it'll be difficult to maneuver into a war that is more favourable than this one. Well unless you include Spain or Austria, but you couldn't really claim much other than reparations from them. It's a shame that the cpu players have gone mad with capital ships in spite of their budgets, it really feels like it swings the power balence a bit too much. That being said when torp tech catches up it will be nice I guess.

Ships loose speed the older they get - it's only reset on fitting new machinery. Your Freya's and Niobe's still have reduced speed despite having completed a refit 🙁 Enemy 740VP gain at end when pop-ups showed only 340 earned through 2 blockades ???

Yeah, Britain and France becoming allies is not a fun war to fight. I have that happening in a campaign I am doing as Japan as well and it is slog of a war trying to minimize my losses while maximizing theirs, in hoping that at some point my allies, Russia and USA, decide to join in. But my expectations are low that they will join before I force some kind of peace deal, luckily successfully defending against an invasion gives a stupid amount of VP that helps me keep the war in my favor whenever peace comes around.

You bulged the Volgalands but didn't add torpedoes! Now only empty space that could be filled with 4 more tubes!

True. I guess I didn't mention this, but my train of thought is: don't add torpedoes to CA because it makes them easier to sink. Whereas for CLs I'm okay with losing them, ton for ton them hitting with a torpedo is better.

Why not replace the machinery? It doesn't take long to do and saves tons of weight. It also gives your ships more of a shelf life to be useful rather than just completely liabilities.
@E.J.Crunkleton

Usually it costs around 2/3 rd the cost to rebuild the ship, and you are still using the outdated armor, torpedo protection, AA, ect. I only do it later in the game if I have a good ship that was made pre oil firing that can be converted to a good role. Like an AA boat or converting an old cruiser to foreign stations. The linchpin is they can't be deficient in other important techs that come around from 1908-1920.
