This is the clearest and most informative video I have read on this problem. Thank you. I now understand two reasons why my black water valve is not closing and know how to fix it.

This was an excellent video...Just the right length and good camera shots. Not looking forward to this project, but your video certainly will help understand what to expect. Thank you!

Thanks for the great video! I went and bought new valves for both my black and grey tanks before watching this. I’m glad I didn’t start with the black one first because I think that I can return the new one and just clean up the old one(hopefully). One thing I noticed was that one of your seals looked a little worn when you reassembled the valve, and that could definitely lead to future leakage. It would definitely be worth replacing the seals if they are showing any wear. Another thing I had problems with was that my new valves didn’t fit into the piping like the old ones!

Thank you so much for the video. I’m about to go on a 10 day camping trip. Getting my trailer ready, and I noticed my black and grey tank valve that connects together are leaking. Going home and will use your steps to try and fix it. Thanks again.

Excellent video I have a Valterra 3" valve for my black water tank with a direct handle. The problem with it is like your cable unit is very hard to move I don't know if I have debris in the tracks for the gate valve or disintegrated gate valve washers TBD when disassembled. If they need replaced I am goint to install an electrically remote controlled valve for convience sake as I am 72 and knees not being what they once were is very difficult to kneel to operate a manual pull handle. Keep up the good work. Happy RVing !!!

Just pulled mine apart last week. Faucet grease works well on the seals.

Thanks a lot for making this video dude. Kind of looks like those cables need to be fastened to something solid but you got it working anyways so that's great.

Well DONE, definitely a good place to start and hopefully end the issue of hard closing valves!

Thanks for the great video. And thanks for editing out the one hour of cleaning the valve. But good to know this is not a quick fix.

Jackel440 why rebuild when the new replacement valve is so cheap? The inner housing lubrication eventually becomes ineffective which makes valve operation stiff. Sure, you can take apart somewhat and try to clean but best to replace.

My RV is an all season. I'm not sure how to get to my valves. My grey water is leaking. But when I do it looks like I need to assess both valves. Might as well since I'm down there.

Thanks for the great tips. Am also going to rebuild my valves before the end of the season. Any particular lubricant you used?

I used silicone, seems to work well. You want something that will stand up to water.

Nice. Do you know where you can purchase a valve that is made for the handle extension?

We don’t even put TP in the tank. Closed lid trash can empty everyday.

I have an older Itaska motorhome that I have been living in by myself for about 3 months. I am semi disabled, senior female and cannot get under this to fix things. I have been able to drain my tanks with no problem but now the black side won't drain when I pull the handle. No fluid or anything and the handle doesn't seem to come out all the way. Is there something I can do to repair that or do I need a new valve and how do you do that when the tank won't drain?

I saw a video where the guy just poured 1/2 cup vegetable oil in his tanks and it lubricates it all and the seals and everything works smooth. But you have to drain your tanks first, then put the vegetable oil. Maybe you could ask a family member or neighbor to help you drain your tanks, then pour 1/2 to 3/4 cup of veg oil and let sit till next trip, or a few hours without using them, if that's possible. I'm no expert, just trying to help. Good luck.

Found the video. Its called a $2 fix on valve pull tanks; The Duprey's is the name of the KZitem site.

My cable broke at the hande (new). Can I easily move the gate to release the black tank to the septic?
@DieselCamper

If you remove the plastic wrap or tape from where the cable meets the valve you should be able to move the gate open with your hand.
