Just found your channel. I gotta say, WAY TO GO!👍🏼. You're honest and humorous at the same time. However, my biggest reason right now for commenting is, I'm a 35 year veteran of driving semi trucks. Your consideration to let the truck drivers of the country have a place to park at "truck stops" is to be acknowledged with a huge THANK YOU! I have no problem if you can't stay awake, have gotten ill, had a breakdown issue or any other viable reason to have to use the truck stop to park. But you knowing that trying to be considerate to truck drivers is the right thing to do now has me subscribing with notifications. Soon to retire to become full time RV. You two are so good that even old farts can appreciate both of you. Goodness and safe travels to you both always.

Wow, thank you for taking the time out of your day Roy to write this awesome comment, because you just absolutely made ours 😊Thank you for all that you do with driving semi-trucks, that is a demanding job. We are really happy to hear that you are almost able to retire and live a life of full time RV! You are going to have so many adventures to look forward to 🙂🙌🏼 We are old farts at heart...so yeah we get along with the older crowd. Is that considered an "old soul"? If it is..yeah the Hanks are a bunch of old souls! lol Do you know what kind of RV that you want to get upon your retirement?

Love you guys! Thanks for keeping it real. My husband and I are past 50 now and always wanted to get out with a camper. Life goes by so fast and if you don't make a conscious effort to live your dreams you run out of time before you are really ready. You inspired us to not wait and go for it. Terrific information. We went to Yellowstone in January, no crowds, just bison on the x-c ski trails. That'll get your heart racing. Also, when approaching older bridges of any type, be sure to consider that over the years there may be some additional asphalt added and the posted height is actually a few inches less.

Howdy Hanks! My name is Darric, and along w me is my girl Maus and our three little dogs. We just got a Micro Minnie Winne last week and took it out for a two day trial at a koa. I had gone one night dry camping on the first day I picked it up. Lots to learn so thank you for your wisdom. First night i got sick, but was glad not to be tent camping. Still no hankey pankey. Highlights were BBQ sauce all over the fridge from a crappy container bouncing, mopping up water from dog dishes/ our micro shower, and when I went to hook up the Sewer line the valve was in the open position since I got it from the dealer so there was a bit of a mess. I'm just glad it wasn't full. Overall we had a blast and look forward to many adventures...

I was actually using RV Trip Wizard when I started your video. I've used it to schedule multiple trips over the past several months and I really like it. It has all the filters you would use to find campgrounds as well as a driving radius layer that you can set to hours or miles depending on how you travel.This allows you to do some more in-depth searches along your route. Another feature that I really appreciate is the fuel range that takes your RV fuel tank size and average MPG to give you low fuel warnings as you plan your trip so you can identify the closest fuel station that you prefer. The GPS feature is pretty helpful as well. Once you put in your rig information, it will provide you the best routes avoiding narrow roads, overpasses, small bridges or tight turns depending on your preferences. All in all it is a great app and I primarily use it to plan on the laptop, but use the app to pull up the trip and use the GPS. It may not work for all, but it works for us. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the thoughtful content. We tend to plan longer drive days (8-9 hours) on the front end of our trip and roll it back to a max of 6 hours for any additional legs or the return trip.

@@refugiovillalobos5281 You can apply for the TSD fuel card anytime! Just know Refugio, that the TSD fuel card is only for diesel trucks. Gas is excluded and does not qualify. The TSD is basically the same thing that truckers use on the road at truck stops. You are able to save money by paying a "bulk pricing" on the diesel or something to that nature 🙂

Great to meet the Hanks. Love the videos. My wife and I are empty nest'ers, but we only RV on the weekend and for small trips. We bought a Class A in 2019, but now the wife wants a 5th wheel (From watching you two). We live in Wisconsin and this year decided to take a mini trip up north, as we were driving we ran into a winter storm, white out conditions (A late April storm). We made it though by getting off at the next exit (2miles at 35mph), only to find blue skies. We found out afterwards that US41 was shut down because an 48 car pileup. Makes for the "No kidding, there I was" moments. Sometimes weather can sneak up without warning. They called for isolated snow, but not on our route so we thought. Best thing to remember is, you can always pull over and have the comfort of home right there.

Hey Hanks, great video! I'll have to say; those going through driver school should watch this video. I've been driving professionally for 26 years, and you nailed it PERFECTLY; "Size matters 😉". There are so many that have absolutely no clue on the clearance of bridges, trees, power lines. Renee, you said it best; looking at bridge clearance must be 2nd nature. Also, know how high your rig is and always remember to lower the TV antenna; it's amazing how much damage is created when those hit a low clearance. Additionally, make it a common practice to look for "No Trucks" signs on roads or streets. There's a reason their there, and just because you may not be in a "semi" doesn't mean you belong there. (Ie.) I watched a $400k motorhome go down a street with a "no trucks" sign and caught their rig on a low power line, and ripped their front A/C right off the rig; easily causing $30k in damage and a tow bill....
@HappilyEverHanks
3 жыл бұрын
Oh man we are currently driving and always worry about the power lines, anytime we see the no truck sign on a road, we avoid it, no questions asked. So question for you then, anytime a road has low clearance (bridges, powerlines, branches) do they have to have one of those no truck signs?

We added a weather radio into our rig. We live in the South and it seems that every year there are more and more violent thunderstorms that spawn tornados across the country. Many state parks are to remote for cell phones to work reliably with weather apps. I will admit that it is a pain to reprogram the radio for each new location, but one of the last place you want to be during a tornado watch is in an RV.

Hey Michael! That is a great upgrade with adding the weather radio, we never thought about doing that. We can't imagine some of the storm you must endure during the seasons...scary stuff. We use RV Trip Wizard and love it. It is a super tool, but like most things the more you put in, the more you get out.. so load up your preferences and dive in, we really like it. We use the 3/3/3 rule.. 3 hours, 300 miles, arrive by 3PM.. give or take, it seems to be a great rule for us.. we don't always stick to it, but it is a great guide when we are planning. Favorite Apps: Windy- for checking weather and winds, RV Life (RV Trip Wizard), Gas Buddy, All Stays Military Campgrounds edition. Thanks for another great video. Good Stuff.

Late to the campfire here but VERY nicely done & said.We've only stayed in one rest stop or truck stop in 40+ years of RV-n. I'm a very light sleeper and big rigs are very loud. Especially if its summer & they're running the A/C or have a refer running. Your choice of apps is spot on. Other than the first day (we're not full timers) I like to limit our driving to 200-300 miles a day. Nice to get out and smell the roses & see sights. One suggestion though; when looking for spots on an app you might want to see how close the place is to railroad tracks. Freight trains run all night long in some places. We camped outside Glacier Park once and the tracks were within 100 yards of camp. Every 20 minutes at night a train went by. We now watch for them.
@HappilyEverHanks

Thank you Herb!! Yes, truck stops can definitely have a lot of noise pollution. Nice call on the 200-300 miles a day 😃That's a great amount! RV Trip Wizard rocks. We use it all the time. I like that they have a configuration for each trip where you can define how many miles you want to travel in a day. Then when you go back to the map, it will provide a circle around where you start the day, showing you where the edge of where you wanted to travel that day is, making planning your stop for the day easier. We really love it. We're also reviewing Dyrt which is another travel app (see @YouMeAndTheRV for details). Stacey has been using it for some time. We generally use RV Trip Wizard to do basic planning, and then also review Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome for free sites which can then be added as stops in your Trip Wizard travel day. Keep up the good work guys!

We rarely traveled more than 300 miles in a day, even in a car. One reason was we were tired of sitting. Two was because if we got somewhere interesting early enough, we could explore and enjoy the area, especially if we were leaving the next day. Our tip is to camp in one spot for 3 days and take day trips in many different directions AFTER talking to the locals and getting advice about where to go and what to see. It always worked for us.

Hi Kyle and Renee. We're relatively new to RVing (May of 2020; not full time) but we don't really equate RV Trip Wizard to Allstays. As the planner in the couple, I use Allstays (the app, not the Pro version, although I should break down and pay the money) to search for campgrounds. It's indispensable to me. RV Trip Wizard, on the other hand, is more of a way to track your route once you've determined where you're going. It's like a visual spreadsheet for your trip. I'll use it as a route baseline to then search for things to do along that route, using other apps (like Allstays again). I just find Allstays much more comprehensive when you're in the research phase of where to stay. Love your channel. We love quirky humor. Generally with RVing couples, there's usually the funny person and then the straight man (or woman). You're unique in that you're both "the funny guy". I have no doubt that your channel will be extremely successful because of the chemistry between the two of you. Don't lose that in the daily grind of day-to-day RV living. You're special together. We'll be following along! --Leo and Charlotte

A couple tips for scoring spots: 1. look online AFTER MIDNIGHT, closer to your vacation date. Just like you said, schnitz happens and people cancel. Those spots become available sometimes at midnight, depending on the website. 2. Many campgrounds have "walk-in" spots they keep open for adventurous souls like me, who get annoyed trying to book online and want to just roam the earth and roll the dice. My wife hates it when I do this though, so keep that in mind 😆
@HappilyEverHanks
3 жыл бұрын
These are some really great points!! We have noticed these walk up sites recently! Like a campground will be completely booked, but then there are always these empty sites there at the park. Oh and Waze is great for letting us know when "stuff" is up ahead, like broken down cars, construction, slow traffic, etc.

That’s great to know! We have yet to try RV Trip Wizard, but have heard great things about it 🙂 Definitely love Waze as well (there are tons of great apps) What kind of RV do y’all travel in? Are you full time on the road?

@@HappilyEverHanks HI, we have a diesel pusher and are gearing up to be snow birds starting this fall. We went to Florida to look at a piece of land that could have been our "home base", but it didn't work out. We did get some practice boondocking / dry camping. And driving too long in one day to get back to work. But do look at RV Parky. It is a very cool app. Super useful when you need to know "what's around here". Loved your video on the This or That challenge.
