North Cotswold Hunt - Illmington - Wednesday 28th February 2024
On Wednesday we headed over to help Three Counties Hunt Sabs and Cotswold Hunt Sabs at the North Cotswold Hunt. We found them on the Foxcote Estate at Nebsworth and they quickly moved on across the road alongside the disused quarry and across the next road towards Hidcote Combe.
The first fox was hunted from Hidcote Combe and was chased all the way to a badger sett where it went to ground. One of our foot sabs had to crack a whip and use voice commands to move the hounds off the sett. The Huntsman quickly gathered the hounds and left after this.
We caught back up with the huntsman as he was hunting to the west of Illmington, however once he again soon moved on once we arrived and crossed the road to hunt just South of Admington slowly making his way back up to Hidcote Combe where the earlier fox had been found. However with sabs positioned nearby inland and on the road watching him he moved on again.
We arrived at Hidcote Boyce to find the hounds in a hedge row. One of our footsabs rushed over and the huntsman quickly called the hounds out. Arriving at the hedgerow the remaining hounds where starting to pick up on a scent down a badger sett. We're pretty sure no one laid a trail down there so we yet again had to intervene and move the hounds on.
From Hidcote the huntsman made his way down to Ebrington and then up to Ebrington Hill Farm where they packed up around 4:00.
