What a great video! I started making school psychology videos because there seems to be a lack of information on youtube and online in general. Are you currently practicing? I would love to hear more about your experiences in your specific state and district!

Hi Tiffany. Thanks for the comment. I have actually seen your vids, subscribed and am looking forward to the next day in the life video. And you are right. There are not enough videos/information about school psychology. It's like the field is a hidden gem. I think you, myself and one other person are really making vids about it. I am currently in a PhD program and I will get licensed next year. I will be doing more videos about my specific state requirements and can't wait to see more of your videos as well. Thank you again for watching and leaving a great comment. Sorry. I had to edit this comment, somehow I got your comment and someone else's mixed up haha. Any thanks again. I'll be tuning in for your next video.

Loved this video! I just binge watched all your school psychologist videos hahaha. I’m in my fourth year at university majoring in psychology and I think I’m going to pursue school psychology as a career path! I live in Canada so I’m sure it’s a bit different but I was just wondering what you would recommend to better my chances of getting into grad school? My GPA from before I declared a psyc major was quite low but for my last 60 credits I’m at about 3.67/4.33 (A-A+ average). Is there any volunteer or work experience I should try to get before? Is it easy to get a job after graduation from a masters program? Thanks so much!!

Hi. I am glad to hear that you have watched a lot the vids. And congratulations on almost finishing Your degree. It looks like you have a pretty good GPA. Honestly, here in the states most programs look at the last 60 hours of coursework. Is it the same in Canada? What I'd recommend is having good letters of recommendation, a strong personal statement, and it definitely helps having volunteer experience. If you volunteer doing something in human services, that can definitely better your chances. The fact that you are majoring in psychology already is great. You will already have a good foundation in psychology. Also, there is a major need for school psychologists all over the world so, you should not have a hard time finding a job. Here in the states there is a desperate need for school psychologists.

Hey I’m a senior in high school and now I have to focus on what I want to do as someone with a not so good math skills and science do you think i can make it? And actually do it? I’m not that good at math and I’m kinda of good in science but not that much but I can study and work my best at it. I love working with kids and I do see myself being one do you think I should do something else and my gpa is a 3.0 usually my grades for math are 80 ,70,65 and science is 75, 60, 80.

Hi Ruby, You could definitely do this. I am also not good at math or science. They are both subjects that I have to try hard at. Luckily in psychology, there is not a lot of that until you get into a doctorate degree where you have to research. But, if you want to do school psychology; you can do you psychology undergraduate degree and then get into a masters or specialist degree that will allow you to get licensed as a school psychologist. If you would like to major in something else..you could do that too and just minor in psychology so that you will have the prerequisites that many programs require to get accepted into the program. You can definitely do it. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

Hi Jessica, thank you for watching. And my much fortune in finishing your bachelors degree. When you graduate from your school psychology program and get licensed you'll be able to call yourself a "school psychologist." I hope that make sense. Please let me know what other questions you have. 😎

Hey quick question : I’m finishing my masters in school counseling with hopes of entering a school psychology PhD program. Later on in life I intend on opening up a private practice in ABA therapy. What licensing route do you think is best for me (to be a licensed ABA therapist)?
@Joelschoolpsy
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Destiny. Much fortune in pursing finishing you masters and pursuing your doctorate. Since you are getting a masters in school counseling, which is a field related to behavior analysis and since you will pursue you PhD in school psychology...you'll probably just need to get into a BCBA approved course sequence certificate program in order to meet the requirements to sit for the BCBA exam. That would likely be the easiest way to get there. There are many on campus and online approved course sequence programs that provide the coursework and practicum/internship opportunities required to sit for the exam. I hope that helps. Please let me know what other questions you may have.
