This sequence shows surface salinity in San Francisco Bay, as predicted by a computational model. The model includes tides coming in from the ocean boundary in the west (tan arrow in the ocean) and river flows from a handful of local tributaries as well as the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (blue arrow in the northeast). The animation covers a large freshwater outflow event, showing the freshening of North Bay and the intrusion of North Bay freshwater into South Bay.
