I love how your eyes go from a shock of disbelief into that moment where your smile spreads and you just melt into the song. No words needed.

A logical step after this would be Wanda Jackson - Stupid Cupid. 😉 Cooke's influence is rather clear in Chris Stapleton's vocal style.

I was about ten years old when my mother got his first album. I was into music from a young age and was already familiar with some of the songs he covered on the album, like "Summertime" and "Old Man River". But I really loved "You Send Me" on that album, and my admiration for him increased with every album when they began featuring more and more original songs. He's definitely an all time R&B master.

Every word you said - pure truth! That amazing talent and yes, such a good-looking man! His murder robbed us all of so much wonderful music...RIP, Mr. Cooke. There was none better than you.

Fantastic song. Uncomplicated. Especially since I was 11 or 12 when it came out.

The word "uncomplicated" jumped out at me. It's so true, with a great melody and a great voice, you don't need a whole lot of embellishment! Although the contrabass line and the horns are gorgeous.

Love Sam Cooke. He was nicknamed the "King of Soul". He had lots of great hits in the 50's-60's such as "You Send Me", "A Change Is Gonna Come", "Bring It On Home To Me", "Wonderful World", "Chain Gang", "Twistin' The Night Away", "Another Saturday Night", "You Send Me", "Good Times" etc. Sadly he was shot & killed in 1964 at the age of only 33. But he left us a great legacy of music.

I have been waiting a long time for you to react to a Sam Cooke song, so glad you found him. He was an extraordinary talent who stands in my mind as one of the greatest singer songwriters of all time and what about that heavenly voice! I found a Sam Cooke LP in my dads record collection when I was a teenager over 40 years ago and played it over and over I just loved listening to his wonderful tunes. Lots more of his you should react to Jayy! Your reaction made my day.

How sad that so few Black reviewers have reacted to this sublime song. We ALL knew the great Black soul singers as well as the jazz and blues artists - and we were living in London and White. They should be aware of their great musical heritage instead of what they are being fed today.
