Tia Aug ITS THE FIRST CHRISTIAN SAMOAN HYMNS .... You’re missing the point.... LM/EFKS was the first samoan christian church and at one point in samoan history all samoans were EFKS... what im trying to say is these songs are all known to Samoans no matter what sect of christianity it is.... because not all churches sing these anymore apart from EFKS ... 🙄🙄

I loved going to pese with my grandparents when I was little. Listening to my grandma hit the high notes and then my grandpa hit the lower and deeper notes. Till this day I don't understand my native tongue but the power of Samoan people's voices in unison is hypnotizing. Always makes me feel so grounded.

I'm born in Hawaii and of Filipino, Chinese and Spanish blood. The chanting of Hawaiian songs and all the Polynesian songs are ever so beautiful to hear. I miss home sometimes and long to return once again to feel the warm water and sandy beaches between my toes. Listening to this was so cleansing and it sounds like a religious hymn. Whichever it is, I cannot just listen once... I just can't seem to shake the harmony of it. Soothingly calm and relaxed.

@Pomaori LOL Bei, Maori trace their lineage back through to Samoa and beyond and that in itself demands tuakana/teina respect. Whakapapa trumps all in Maoridom, as a Maori, you should know this and if not you are Kuare. Kia ora e te teina. Samoans were involved in wars, interisland warfare with Tonga and Fiji and we were even involved in the first World War when the Germans occupied Samoa. Samoans are regular contributors to armies globally. Before YOU were Warriors, WE were Warriors.

That this culture so proudly embraces the magical and uniquely human art form of singing Acapella, multiple part harmony, specifically by males, makes cultures that DON’T do that …- well … look like animals. We Americans shouldn’t be particularly proud of this. Except for the experience among both orthodox and evangelical Christians, it just would be something absent.
