This video explains how I repaired a Samsung refrigerator that was having the evaporator and evaporator drain freezing up. The focus of this video is to explain WHY this is happening. I am not showing how to get the evaporator cover off as that varies per model and is not really what this video is about. Also, I am not addressing any of the other suggested fixes in the forums or other videos because I don't think they are necessary...and some are downright dangerous.
Three items to address to stop the freezing issue:
1. Clean the condenser coil at the rear. This apparently contributes to the freezing because it causes the refrigerator to run longer. This should be done yearly for most people, but more often if you have pets.
2. Install a new evaporator drain clip on the heater to ensure the drain line ice is melted during a defrost cycle.
3. Move the white defrost sensor as shown in the video. Do NOT move the black thermo sensor.
If the evaporator cover will not come off due to ice buildup, use the manual defrost mode, or unplug fridge and then blow warm (not hot) air into the fan intake area, or just wait for the ice to melt before removing the cover. Be aware that water may run out onto the floor while defrosting. Trying to remove the cover with ice buildup may result in damage to the cover and/or the evaporator.

Notes: I realized that I was using the wrong dimension for the fold (3/8”) in the video. The corrected scaled drawing for the clip showing 7/16” is in the link above. I also noticed that I referenced the wrong thickness of aluminum that I used. It should be .040" instead of .062".
Also, unplug the refrigerator before cleaning the condenser coil or removing the evaporator cover.
