Anyone notice how the Muni Flyer 4500/4600 series sounded distinctly different inside vs outside whereas the New Flyer 8800/8900 series sounded exactly the same?

Yes. I've always noticed that. But when riding these I used to always sit next to an opened window to sort of blend the inside sound with the outside sound.

ClassicTVMan1981X Rare D902 audio. Does this sound more like an HT-747 or 740 to you? Also, I thought I heard a death tick.
@markdm4805
9 жыл бұрын
TheCRTman You probably did hear the classic death tick. Muni drove these buses into the ground in the 18 years they ran on the streets of SF. The bodies alone looked like someone took a baseball bat to them. Even then they still coulda ran them some more. Engine wise I'm gonna go with the HT 740. The D40's had HT 747's in em and sounded subtly different then these.
@TheCRTman
9 жыл бұрын
Mark Del Monte I still can't figure out what causes the death tick. Yeah almost 19 years actually. I've seen pictures of other D902's in 2001 and they looked pretty beat up. Even though the HT-747 was becoming standard by 1984, I also think these had HT-740's. The D40's had HTB-748's (electronic version "ATEC.")

I may need a little help on the differences between the D901 and D902. The only one I can tell is that the D902’s moaned more
@TheCRTman
4 жыл бұрын
D902's had a T-drive transmission setup, different rear doors and different rear windows. D901's were V-drive. Bus 4574 is an exception since it was a replacement bus built later in 1984. It was labeled as a D901, but it had the same specs as a D902 except for the rear window.

Anyone know what the bell ringing at the beginning of the clip was? I always wondered that when riding these buses during their service years.
@HKT120
3 күн бұрын
I believe that was the bell sound when someone tried to open the rear door. Sometimes when the bus was turning left, the centripetal force would swing the door to the right and the bell would also make false alarm…

Do you mean myself or other passengers? For me, I usually would make a comment for myself to remind me what the agency, fleet number and route were. On some of my earlier recordings, I would also make a comment of which street intersection the bus was at…I didn’t do this on my later recordings…
