Does the sapodilla taste just like the mamey sapote because that's one fruit I just can't stomach. You complained about soft jackfruit but for me the texture and flavor of the mamey is a no no. Lol ( mashed sweet potatoes)

Sumair Tareen we have never had larvae in our sapodilla fruit. You can always bag the fruit with organza bags if you think insects are laying eggs in the fruit before it ripens? We pick our fruits when ripe but still firm
@aghasumair
4 жыл бұрын
@@SulcataGrove Thanks for kind reply... There are no visible insects on fruit we also pick firm fruits from tree, wash them and then we keep them in plastic bag for few days to make them ripe enough for consumption purpose.. i think at that stage they catch those larvae in fruit.
@SulcataGrove

Sumair Tareen We never put our fruit in plastic bags. We just leave on the counter to ripen. It wouldn’t have larvae inside without insect damage - it just may not be visible.

@@SulcataGrove I believe my is grafted by not 100% sure. It's about 6ft tall and about 3fr wide. It flowers a lot but fall off in a couple of weeks. I put organic mulch (6 inches away from the trunk) 4 inches deep. I feed twice a year with organic 8-4-2. I'm just hoping it would soon bear some fruits. Maybe it just needs more time to grow and bear fruits. Crossings my fingers though. I'm southern California (Los Angeles county area). What do you think ?

Hi Craig I have Alamo and Hasya sapodilla trees about 6 years. They have flowers last two years but no fruits. Are you using any special fertilizer for it to form fruit. Can you give me advise and technique Thanks
@SulcataGrove
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Katelyn, I haven’t put any fertilizer on our sapodilla trees for years. They are mulched heavily. Maybe there is a pollination issue? One study showed that cross pollination led to higher fruit set. Are the trees close to each other and flowering at the same time? Are any pesticides used on the property or by mosquito control which could be causing a decline in pollinators? You could try hand pollinating too, -Celeste

Maybe try hand pollinating to see if it is a pollination issue. Our soil is naturally high in phosphorus and the trees seem to thrive with out any amendments other than mulch.
