I drive for a company with a large fleet of Scanias. Most of the retarders start cutting off and on after placed past the third position. Im pretty sure this is due to the retarder being worn out by other drivers that drive around with the retarder in the on position, probably at MAX. I wish my boss would show them this video. The retarder lever should be off whilst driving UNTIL its needed, then it should be used ONE STEP AT A TIME. Some people just slam it straight down to stage 4 or 5. This is why I loathe sharing trucks with other drivers. Its painful lol!
