The continuity of the Scooby-Verse version of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" could be due to how details of the story can be lost the more times when its told via word of mouth. As hearing a story without all the facts would result in details being added or lost over time. Details which would result in a version of the story where Ichabod was a married man before vanishing.

Fun fact, the Headless Horseman was originally inspired by the celtic creature or faery known as the Dulahan, a headless rider considered a sign of death to any who see it. They carry their decaying head under their arm and wield a whip made of a spine. Pretty much works the same as any death omen, like seeing your own doppelganger or what have you, but definitely one of the scariest. Mostly it is usually depicted in media as a more normal human character who just happens to have a detachable head and may or may not ride some form of bike, especially in anime and manga. So, it is nice that there is still a spirit out there keeping the scares alive, even if just during Hallows eve.
@Scoobytopia
5 ай бұрын
The Dulahan also continues to be quite popular thanks to the series DuRaRaRa!! which features one as a main character searching for her head! I think that might have been my introduction to the folklore of them long over a decade ago now.

This is actually false, Irving did not hear about the Dullahan until long after Sleepy Hollow’s publication. The story was inspired by a Hessian soldier who got beheaded by General William Heath’s cannons and a poem by Sir Walter Scott about the wild hunt in Norse mythology. In fact the legend of the Dullahan has been more influenced by Irving’s horseman than the other way around. The soldier who died was a 24 year old named Heinrich Range who died on Nov. 1st, 1776.

The story's in the public domain anyway, so everyone can come up with their own conclusions with what happened to Ichabod. And maybe that's also what Washington Irving had in mind too; to encourage his audience to think. The literary world was pretty inquisitive in those days. But I think if you've seen this episode, and maybe even the Funky Phantom episode that was also centered in Sleepy Hollow, you can tell Hanna-Barbera wanted to make a happier ending for Ichabod Crane and that he actually survived and had a family, and his descendants eventually returned to Terrytown. And I believe it would make plausible sense that Ichabod wasn't killed by a pumpkin.

I know this is unrelated, but… should you ever look at Scoobynatural, I think it’s pretty telling that it’s Jim Krieg’s work. When the Scooby gang finds out the ghost is real, they all nearly have mental breakdowns. But in Zombie Island… well, it’s that one meme. “Oh no! Anyway…” Jim Krieg seems to adamantly believe that the Scooby gang could not handle the existence of the actual supernatural. This is in spite of the fact that even William Hanna and Joseph Barbera were find bending that rule themselves- they were executive producer’s on the 13 Ghosts *and* the red shirt Shaggy trilogy. Like I said in another video- Jim Krieg clearly wants to force his own narrative on the Scooby fandom.
