This is awesome! I have a couple of PAL 4:3 CRTs here that will not shift the image all the way to the right when using my NTSC systems, even after going to the service menu and maxing out shifting to the right. It has always bothered me. This device might be just what I need. Thank you for bringing it up! Also, I just learned from you that you can control the duck with P1 controller... after all these years, I never knew about that, or tried it. Mind blown! Also, first time I hear of a 9v to 5v USB step up converter, I'll be getting one for my Gamne Gear immediately, as I only have a PSU that I bought that doesn't even fit, wrong barrel. That's why I like your videos, I learn a lot from them. PS: Also very interested in how you converted a 5 in 1 out SCART switch box to a 1 in 5 out solution. That sounds perfect to a lot of people with several CRTs in one place, and I personally think you could make a video on that conversion alone, it would be helpful to many.

Thanks Rex! I always try to sneak in a few tips here and there even if it’s off topic. For the 9v step up converter, the only catch is you need a minimum 5v 2A power. Also worth mentioning is that it doesn’t power my GG with a BennVenn IPS screen, only my other GG with the stock screen and a TV out mod. I haven’t ran the scart switcher through its paces to see if noise or signal loss is noticeable as yet. I might revisit it sometime, but essentially I just switched the inputs to the outputs for audio and video and cut the old traces for passive distribution

@@mega-driver 1:51 This device I’m referring to can only slightly stretch the image horizontally but you need to build a custom cable for scart in and out and not worth the trouble IMO. Otherwise I don’t know of any other device that’ll seamlessly pass through a 240p signal and allow stretching. I could be wrong but only thing coming to mind without emulation is line doubling 240p to 480p by an OSSC or retrotink 2x (or skip this if using a Mister and output 480p) > output into a GBS-C/RetroTink 5x and use their software to stretch and downscale back to 240p > convert the HDMI output to VGA if using the RT5x > combine HV sync for RGBs with an adapter like the HD15-2-scart. @MarcoRetro316

Lucky you, I’ve been looking for a UVC for a long time! I know exactly what you mean with using an external shifter to alter the order of fields that the UVC will average into a fresh line to increase the sharpness. This functions the same as an Extron image shifter but at consumer-friendly voltage levels. I’m not sure what range of sync voltage the UVC is expecting as Extrons output TTL level sync, whereas the scart shifter’s sync output will be under 0.7Vpp. Otherwise they function much the same. I have since noticed an infrequent vertical ‘shake’ with the picture adjust box. It might be safest to stick with another Extron interface in your scenario

@LOWPASS92 hmm it could be the power supply and it wouldn’t hurt to try something else, but my device simply passed through RGB and only processes sync. It’s odd that only turning it on darkens the image, some possibilities I can think of: the extra scart cable in the mix is deteriorating the signal, if the cables have resistors on the RGB lines (they shouldn’t), if your picture adjust box has additional termination on the RGB lines, or if the horizontal shift from the scart box doesn’t jive with the TV’s horizontal phase which can darken the image.

Wow, never knew there is such thing. I was just trying to figure out why does my original Genesis (NTSC), has that overscan issue, while SNES (PAL) doesn't. I hook up them both to Sony Trinitron KV-21M1K, made in UK. Both to RGB. But Genesis has colored borders, depending on the game, and the image shifted slightly to the left. When i go to secret picture adjust menu of a TV, it's dead locked and I can't make any picture adjustment changes. Again, on my SNES, for some reason, I can adjust the picture. I also have a 14" Panasonic without RGB, and no matter what I hook up to it the picture's geometry is perfect. Genesis, SNES, famicom. No overscan... I'd really appreciate if you could explain why is that happening, and what might be a solution.
@MarcoRetro316
Жыл бұрын
Coloured borders will differ per game where developers didn’t utilised the full resolution and intended that area to be in the overscan. I know some PVM’s have a separate adjustment for 50 and 60Hz but they aren’t locked when not displaying that frequency. You could plug in the Genesis and use masking tape on the screen to mark the position of the picture, then plug in the PAL snes and make an adjustment, then plug the Genesis back in and hopefully it carries over to 60Hz video sources. As for the Panasonic not shifting the picture, maybe it strips sync from the composite video with less processing therefore little effect on picture shift, whereas the Sony’s jungle chip may be taking longer to separate sync from composite video. Either that or maybe the Panasonic has a slight underscan and therefore no noticeable cutoff?
@VOLTACINEMA
Жыл бұрын
@@MarcoRetro316 so, do you mean I have to readjust the picture position for each console, using SNES, every time? And still I don’t quite get what to mark on screen. See, SNES picture fills entire screen just fine. I really had to make some minor adjustments, so now there is nothing to mark - SNES fills the screen completely. Or should I mark Genesis picture and fit SNES picture accordingly? Sorry, I don’t really know tech stuff )) As for Panasonic tv - no, as far as I can judge, the picture fits the screen perfect with composite. No underscan or overscan. Nothing’s hidden behind the screen, and no color borders shown, no matter what console I plug.
@MarcoRetro316
Жыл бұрын
Nah definitely don’t adjust for every system. Marking the edge of the screen was just to test if your Sony’s service menu adjustments with the SNES plugged in would then translate back to when you have a 60Hz source plugged in like your Genesis, and making the screen is just to reference of it worked. Picture shift comes with these retro systems and it’s recommended to have it best calibrated to the console you’ll play the most so if that’s SNES for you I’d just leave it

@@MarcoRetro316 thank you! But why does it happen to Genesis? They weren’t making those games to show kids with colored borders, were they? Is that due to 50-60 Hz thing? I mean, on US made tv Genesis fits the screen, and SNES doesn’t, is that so?
@MarcoRetro316
Жыл бұрын
It’s already there for certain games on the Genesis but less so on the SNES, so if the TV shifts the image only on the Genesis then you’re gonna see it.
