When watering your plants, tip the pot 45 degrees to drain in order to remove the excess water retained in the bottom layer. This will help prevent overwatering and this is most important in the winter.

Thanks Harli! Were you going to include a link to your prop box video? I'm very interested to hear that you can get new plants from nodes without leaves. Should I wait until spring to try a project like that? I heard that propagation works best in spring or summer. We live in Seattle and keep the apartment about 65 degrees in the winter. Now I need to declutter to make more room for plants! Love your scindapsis collection.

I recommend using a brand called Fish Sh!t. My local plant store recommended it to me and I have to say it is AWESOME. I’m seeing fantastic growth with my houseplants since I started using it and it seems more convenient than liquid dirt. You just use a drop in a gallon of water. The Fish Sh!t itself smells but once you dilute it in the gallon it has no smell whatsoever. Triple checked with various house members🤓🌱🍄

Ive had a scindapsus exotica for the past half year or so and in my experience, it grows incredibly slow. She still only has about 5 leaves or so and has been working on pushing out the same three leaves for like the past couple of weeks. I have her under a grow light in my room with a west facing window (though the plant is on the opposite side of the window so about 10 ft away or so). It’s also pretty dry in my room and I have used fertilizer before, but it doesn’t seem to speed up the process too much. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks!

Hang it higher? Plants tend to grow towards the light, so if the light source is above the plant it's going to try to grow upwards.

Ugh I have so many issues with my exotica even though people say it’s the easiest. Maybe 3 weeks after getting mine I repotted into a terracotta pot because it was fully outgrowing the nursery pot and then it started getting soft and light green leaves all around the base but then a couple other leaves on the vines were perfectly fine. It doesn’t make sense to me. Anyone have a suggestion? I have pictures that I can send too
@nicolekelly7580906
3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like my philodendron brasil. I guess when you repot them it stresses them out a bit. Mine has soft droopy leaves around the bottom now. I know it can’t be because of overwatering, because I check the soil to make sure it’s dry before I water it. I don’t know. Hopefully yours gets better. Maybe it needs time to acclimate to its new home.
@PictureMaria1

One thing I have noticed is this plant is very vocal when it is not happy. The leaves will curl when you give it too much water or if you aren’t giving it enough water or if it gets too hot or too cold...so it always appears to be fussing about something. The main reason mine fusses is when it doesn’t get enough water and I found mine fussing terribly when I had it growing in a terracotta pot because the media would dry out too fast for its liking. When I transferred it to a plastic pot it did so much better. I have had my plant now for about a year and the vines climb on a tomato cage and is now 5 feet long growing full and lush and less fussy. LOL! Perhaps I’ll do a video of it in the future.

If my baby grows half the size of yours, I will be grateful 🙏🏾 New purchase 3 months ago. Looks very similar to your small Silvery Anne that was in need of water...my baby has curled leaves often. Another observation: you don't cut the yellowing leaves at the Exotica crown 👑, ¿por qué?

Scindapsus are my favorite genus right now. I do find, tho, that they all have different care. I did a stupid and put 4 varieties of Scindapsus in a big plant box and they all behave differently. My exotica is so hearty and forgiving. The Silvery Ann and Argyerus are thirstier and more delicate. I probably should have planted just the Jade Satin with the Exotica since they’re so tough. My Treubii, moonlight and dark, are just so so special. Great video!
