Run it in with electric motor before you start on ignition system.

Maybe the original builder was going to make some form of attachment to the pin that would catch onto the lever, a small block or some such, maybe a bolt so that it could be screwed in and out to adjust the catching of the lever, that would make the most sense.

Hello Adam This looks like the Phillip Duclos design Odds and Ends Engine from the book Steam and Stirling book 1. Nice little engine so far.

At 11:25, that was the reason the fly-wheel turned a bit hard, because of the lever. Keep it ALL original if possible! At 16:20, so go buy a small allen key. Should have left that piston sitting in deasel for a couple of hours, rather then taking a chance of busting that ring! You got lucky! At 26:42, look at all those shavings! At 32:57, that's a bolt, not a nut! At 48:45, rotate that piston rod 180° in case that's part of the problem.

Iv,e got a feeling it was built more as a display model rather than a working machine, the tollerances look a bit too far off.

I believe that green paint has to line up with a mark on the small cog for the valve timing

I believe it those Engines are self made you need a metal lathe and tons of experience

Hi Adam, just an idea would turning the con rod 180 degrees maybe free off the tight spot, lovely little engine.

A home made buzz coil is probably your best ignition source as all you need on the engine is a contact to earth the buzz coil . they are easy to make with a 12v coil and a5pin relay .

Thanks Adam for putting this on very great full lovely little engine yeah think I would run it in with a small motor that's what I have done with my stuart steam engines 3 in one oil perfect could use lathe oil aswell but keep up the great work I'm sure it will run good

I have one just like it but made completely out of aluminum. It uses a small set of points and a buzz coil to run.

Sadly not! I rather like compression ignition engines - I have a few of them, some maybe 70 years old.
