So much forgotten talent like Andrea Martin , Dave Thomas still working but the team approach was awesome and seeing the stars in other stretch roles

@@gregb8565 Same for Dave Thomas. I had no idea "MR F" in arrested development was a freaking legend and I also thought he was genuinely British. In that episode Charlize Theron as a brit remarks "I hate when they hire yanks to play brits, you can always tell." Little did I know it also applied to Dave Thomas's character.

Amazing that we can actually see the birth of Guy Caballero in an actual episode. At 23:06 Flaherty came up with the name on the spot and that's why Harold laughs like that.

As someone who only ever saw clips and parts of episodes late at night over the years I also just got excited at that moment in this episode; "oh my god Guy Caballero lore! Has he been mentioned so far in the series???" Glad to hear I did not miss an earlier reference.

Moe Green played by Ramis was a character from The Godfather, played by Alex Rocco who received the horse's decapitated head. Joe Flaherty (RIP) later played a nefarious character named Rocco, a dumber than dumb hitman.

Then the last sketch with Ramis had Joe Flaherty calls and said his name is Guy Caballero. 😂 Very funny the way the use names for comic effects. And Joe Flaherty said in a podcast, he did not like scripts word for word, that is why he did some improv for the scripts he wrote. 😅

Such an underrated show I always thought it was better than SNL. it’s sad that the tv producers only think about what’s funny to them and not the tv audience likes. Great show!!!

I remember this one! Even then, you could feel the possibility for total comic brilliance, which took off soon after SCTV went into 90 minute format. SCTV has ruled the world since then, often on the sly, by dint of having more talent, better ideas and greater laughs by a 1000 fold than any other television.

The two "SCTV News" anchors epitomized the opposing directions TV news was going from that decade forward. Floyd was the old-school traditionalist (in the Murrow/Cronkite/Huntley-Brinkley mold) who emphasized the business of telling people what they needed to know about the world around them, and it being all about the news. Earl was wedded to the razzle-dazzle, sensationalistic, tabloidy "Happy Talk" style of presentation (of which playing taped music was this installment's manifestation), going by what broadcasting consultants were telling news directors across the country what the public wanted to see/hear - and it being all about him.

When I was about 20 and still living at home with my parents I'd come home rather stoned on Saturday nights right after Saturday Night Live ended and SCTV came on. I'd lay on my bed and watch SCTV and I thought I was gonna hurt myself, I couldn't laugh hard enough at some of the stuff they showed. Like the episode where Joe Flaherty showed 'do it yourself dentistry,' and because he wasn't a licensed dentist he could only swig some booze for anesthetic - then he started working on his own teeth while screaming his head off.
