Important points on buddy entry, exit and underwater positioning Jim. I always use a lead, follower arrangement with regular checking by lead to ensure the follower is close say 2 secs and OK. Never come across group diving, nor a shared octo, in hundreds of dives in Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia. Dive guides are normal, especially with drift dives where the group needs to ascend together, but buddies are still assigned. The dive guides will sometimes have a stage tank just in case someone is low on air for safety stop, etc

Hi Doug! Yeah, the group diving concept is ponderous. i should get some help to see if it still exists in any of the JP texts here.

we have this group of ours, made of experienced and new ones.we mostly do weekend fun dives . we start actually like having a buddy but always end up like a group dive because we have some group members that are fairly new to diving ,while me and some are fairly more experienced.we somewhat like herd (the new ones) them altogether like sheeps to monitor them throughout the whole dive but in the end we finish the day with cold beers and good memories. love your content and great stories.stay safe and safe diving

Oh, mate. Total envy. We should do a collaboration sometime. Would you be interested in that? Like an interview or something.

I've never experienced that group diving thing in, Australia, Indonesia, Palau and Philippines. It seem dangerous to me 🤿

The Group Diving thing is Intresting.. Never heard it before and to be honest:I think it is extremely unsafe because the DM can't guide properly and can pay attention to 8 divers with the quality like a buddy could.. At least the Divecenters I dived with in Asia (Bali, Thailand, Philippines) used the Buddysystem. Thanks for pointing out how the Buddy should be positioned. I have the feeling that many divers don't know this and there then to dar away and or in a position where it is hard to see them.. 👌

Hi, Martin. Thanks for taking the time to add your thoughts. Agreed on the group approach. Not for me. Yeah, I'm always surprised and feel bad when a buddy pair lines up with one buddy so far from the wall on the other side of their buddy. Missing all the great stuff! Thanks again for dropping in 👍

That group diving sounds odd especially the part about only one person has octo

Totally agreed, Ivory. That said, there are a lot of other group procedures in all parts of life that we find unusual. Funny world.
