Great video! If I wanted to add texture to a sculpt I’ve done with dyntopo, could I use a subdivision surface modifier on top of that?
@grabbitt

You would use the multi resolution modifier

How do you apply like stitches? Are there sort of lazy mouse in blender? If Im gonna use the workflow for stiches it will be long.

There are lots of uses for textured sculpt brushes, but I don't feel that fine skin details should be one of them. I tend to sculpt the more prominent wrinkles, but all the finer ones and pours and blemishes can all be done just as effectively straight on a grayscale bump map that can later be baked into the normals in order to avoid the insane overhead of needing a 6+ million poly mesh to capture them. Pretty much any details too small to contribute to the readability of the silhouette shouldn't have actual geometry wasted on them. The workflow of painting bump maps with textured brushes is almost identical to the one used here to sculpt with them instead. Though you will need to have your base model unwrapped already and take a few simple steps to set up the texture to be painted to. That aside, this was a very succinct explanation of setting up a textured sculpt brush. I always enjoy stumbling upon short and clear explanations of useful and often overlooked features in Blender. I look forward to seeing what else you have on your channel.

Yes the more I understand the workflows the more I agree. I like your point that fine details should be painted rather than sculpted. I will work on that in the future.

Ya, refining your workflow is a never ending process. I'm still relatively new to sculpting in Blender, only been taking it more seriously this past year or so, but I've been using Blender for over a decade now and I am still finding new and interesting ways to use it. I'm always trying to make some time each day to watch a few random tutorials or timelapses to get new ideas on ways to improve my workflow.

What, the number of subdivisions depends on graphic??? I would say it's ram and cpu....
@grabbitt
6 жыл бұрын
yeah I'm pretty sure it depends mainly on the graphics card when sculpting. I could be wrong but it's load smoother on my pc with a good graphics card than on the macs i use with the same processor. Could be wrong though

Why don't you turn on dytopo instead of subdivide ?

because dyntopo will not be responsive enough
