Hello Everyone!
We’re testing out another Pinterest craft today. This one promises to turn any clear glass object, or home décor piece you have into a beautifully muted sea glass art piece.
I especially like the simplicity of this DIY project because it requires minimal supplies, all of which I had on hand, and is reversible. That is, if I hated it, I could pop my decorated vase into the dish washer and reverse the paint process.
For this craft I used Elmer’s glue, food coloring, and a glass item. I chose to work with a cool spiked vase I had on hand. For this craft, a vase, or candle holder, or decorative bowl would work great! White glue is water soluble, so this won’t last on any dish wear which will get wet or washed.
The craft is simple enough, mix your glue and food coloring to desired color and paint on the glass in an even coat. Allow to dry. That’s it!
The dried effect is lovely! The glue gives a muted, foggy glaze to the glass which softly diffuses the light. The colored glass casts lovely beams of colors across the room. The vibrancy of the food coloring stayed true. I think if I’d chosen green or even blue it would have truly looked like a treasure washed up from the deep and collected from the shoreline. The hazy effect also gives the glass that particular sea glass look. You know the one, where the ocean and the sand have abraded the bottle until it’s completely etched away the polish, rounding out sharp corners and shards and giving the flat planes an ethereal glow. The glue won’t protect you from any rough edges, but the overall effect is beautiful. I’m so glad I tried this DIY home decor hack out because it worked perfectly!
