It's sad what happened: seal meat is one of the most sustainable sources we have in Canada, but some people don't know the meaning of an ethical hunt and that's unfortunately what became popularized as "seal hunting". Hunting seals ethically should have no negative connotations at all!

tip on cooking potatoes for the youngsters: when boiling potatoes you know they are done when you can poke a knife to the center as easy as the outside. should go in easy but, the most important thing is . shut off the burner drain the water , put the pot back on the off burner and dry them up a little. wet potatoes are why a lot of people don’t like boiled potatoes. don’t eat them right out of the water. also, Best way to make mashed potatoes nice and fluffy .

I have no problem with hunting just about anything. As we expand wildlife has to be managed and I like wild game on the table. Like you said we have coyote issues here in Texas not to mention the wild hog problems. They have to be hunted and trapped hard to control them, they can do tremendous damage otherwise. I’ve eaten wild hog but I am going to have to get pretty hungry to eat a coyote, and I have eaten some pretty unusual stuff. I had a friend that spent some time in Alaska and he said seal tasted like fishy roast beef, he didn’t like it. I would try it and would love the experience of the hunt and the eating. I enjoy seeing how things are done elsewhere, so you keep doing you, love your knife work as well. God bless.

That seal looked some good, but you should’ve cooked enough for the rest of us…lol… That is a very nice Ulu later this summer I plan on making an Ulu for skinning, just a fun never done it before project. I like that you made it heavy but there were good reasons why the traditional Ulu had such a thin blade. Switching gears here, it just goes to show that a shiny sharp convex blade (kitchen knife) will cut with very little effort. Otherwise the tang would be uncomfortable due to hot spots (pressure) in the hand.

Seal looks like a dark meat. Like duck breast or liver type dark. But I like duck and liver and being a hunter for 6 decades, I'm used to eating lots of wild game and I appreciate it for what it is. How do you like that vortex scope? I see it says 10x42 but is that a fixed 10 power or variable? I picked up a Nikon scope a few years back for my 30.06. It's got crystal clear optics. I'm really impressed with the quality for what I consider to be a mid range scope. It's not a Zeiss but it's still a very good scope. BTW there is a saying about how mechanics drive the most beat up junky cars, a carpenters home is always in need of repair, so I guess it's only fitting that a knife maker needs a handle on his kitchen knife. hahah
@kyle_noseworthy

Haha I suppose it fits perfectly then. I'll try to get that handle on soon. I have a Nikon optic on the rifle used in the video, and I love it. Clear, sharp, and bright. 4-12 with a 40mm objective. I had a question, if I recorded a trip To medicine hat from Winnipeg Manitoba To pick up a Dagger that my grandfather gave me before he passed away.would you maybe feature some clips from my trip?See when I was in my early twenties I went on a trip with some friends with no particular thought about coming back or what I do when I got there.. I ended up in medicine hat Alberta and I had This dagger in my possession because of course it's near and dear to me but I didn't want to take it on the bus back to Winnipeg when I was done with my adventure in medicine hat so I believe that I but I hid it In between railway ties and the mud of a small hill in front of a Post Office I believe in medicine happy before I left What I would like to do is take this trip find the dagger and send it to you to be refinished I really don't know the history behind the knife.. But it would mean the world to me if I could find it 1st and then have it Redone in my grandfather's honor as he is A-war veteran from World War II he served for the Canadian services in France . And I do have pictures if you're interested. Please let me know what you think I love your videos I'm subscriber and a huge fan. I'd posit the difference is that the knife fits a description more common with a cleaver or mezzaluna, since it is used more to slice across meat. Whereas, a dagger(push-daggers specifically) are intended for quick and easy jabs/stabbing motions. The intended and "most feasible" use for a normal person as determined by the court plays a huge role in determining legality of objects

Thanks Troy! The fur debate is a tough one. I don't like to see meat wasted either... but when you look at cases like farmlands in the US that are just completely overrun with rapidly populating coyotes, you could argue the benefits of removing them just for the sake of lowering the population. Seals fall into a similar category. As for the taste, it's a red meat, oily, kinda' rich, with the slightest hint of 'fishiness' flavor, if that makes sense?

Haha The meat does have a slightly fishy taste, but I'm not sure if it's because of their diet or not. It's a little different than any red meat you've tasted before.

@@kyle_noseworthy I've read that if you eat bear at the wrong time of year (while they're eating salmon) they taste terribly fishy, though the rest of the year they taste great. That's what spurred on my question. I grew up eating moose, and halibut (born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, tho now I'm in Kentucky) but those both came from my one hunting and fishing brother, the others weren't as fond of the wilderness. He apparently wasn't into bear hunting. You don't have to look too far to find meats I haven't tried. *laughs*

You shouldn't have been ashamed having to hide the killing Swamp People killing gators and you are given a close up on it, and sometimes when they clean the gator, YES, I know they are more dangerous. The people who get worked about it are the same people who cry when Bambi's mom was shot and are cool with abortion.

Took a few seals while I was living in Nunavut. We. Would open the seals up on the sea ice and eat the black meat raw. The locals would flash freeze the organs on the ice, and do the same. Good times, a bit fishy tho.

I don't think I could stomach that, LP! I have heard about it, and seen it done on TV, but I don't think my stomach could get it down.

@@kyle_noseworthy I preferred to eat the char or caribou frozen to cooked after living there. We ate it with soy sauce like sushi. When we were out on the land we could just keep everything frozen, except for the tea of course.

"Pests", "ravaging more premium natural resources". I hope the irony is not lost on you Kyle. I'd suggest the creatures that have supported humans on the island for millenia deserve respect rather than demonization.

Personally. I don't mind the hunting footage. If your going to hunt seal to eat it, thats fine. But if your hunting for seal just to strip the hide then leave the meat. That's where I have an issue.

If you lose subs for hunting seals, I say, "good riddance snowflakes"

Seals are basically puppies with no legs. Leave them alone
