@@RomanDoes ima be honest....your setup is kinda trash bro lol. It does not look good and the "cable management" is pretty awful. You have valid criticisms but you're kinda off in your pricing on several things. Yes you CAN find cheaper alternatives to their accessories but you're also getting much shittier build qualities and aesthetics. Your table top is also much smaller than whats on offer from SL and of a significantly poorer quality. The Ikea tabletops you mentioned are laminated particle board. Like I said, you do have valid criticisms but OPs comment is spot on, you can't really fully review a product without actually trying it.

@@ultimomos5918 well, calling someone's set up trash without showing your own is called trash talking. My setup is NOT shown there as a superior setup, but instead, shown as a setup direction that anyone can take and build on top of that for half the price and have it custom, sorry you got too aggravated by it. That includes the size of the top, I usually don't compare the sizes (if you know what I mean), it all comes to how much you need and how you use it. As an owner of several gaming chairs, I can say that SecretLab Titan is coming at the top when it comes to price, but everything else is mediocre (again, in my perspective), so quality is questionable here. Now the Ikea top, I've shown a good quality alternative for just $27, nobody stops you from buying a $200 wooden top, its all up to your budget.

@@RomanDoes lol here's my current setup imgur.com/a/dw4BrGF. I'm in the market for a new desk because as it stands I'm currently using a cheap, albeit huge (70inx30in) particle board laminated desk I snagged of Facebook Marketplace for $20. Also I could probably have vacuumed a bit better for this pic lol I'm just interested in keeping the discussion honest. You have valid criticisms. The desk IS expensive and I won't argue that it isn't but you're getting quality products for what you pay for. I've put plenty of time into my own setup. The keyboard is custom, the cable I built myself, the PC I built, the desk mat is a custom print from x-raypads....these are just things I've learned along the way of building my own work from home/gaming setup. One of the key thing I've learned is that you ultimately get what you pay for. Cheap in equals cheap out. Obviously I have an SL product but I'm more than happy with my purchase and feel that the price was completely justified. As for the product review issue, SL sent out quite a few product demos, several of which have gone to relatively small tech channels for review. Glorious just did the same with their GMMK Pro. These companies don't really have an interest in holding their reviewers to a script considering that a large portion of their marketing comes from word of mouth and social media presence. I work around marketing all day and was in sales for 10 years, I could give you a huge anecdotal story about how much I get marketing bullshit and hype but I also won't fault a well built product. That's what SL has here. There are features I would like to see implemented. A smart lighting system, larger desk options, sit/stand functionality (which honestly I don't care about, the benefits of sit/stand are marginal), more desk mat options....but SL has designed their product to be modular in that regard. You were right, they want to sell peripherals, but they've built a solid product upon which to base those sales and have communicated their intent to continue iterating upon the product. Can you build cheaper? Yes. Will it have the same level of build quality? Probably not, unless you're willing to shell out for a hardwood top and design your own cable management system. But to just say that the SL product line is overpriced marketing shill is pretty disingenuous. You get what you pay for, a solid, well built product with forward thinking design and a kickass customer service team to boot. You're not getting any of that from Ikea, Ebay or Alibaba, plain and simple.

I saw this video after buying it, and honestly I think there is a bit more to the desk, I am super happy with my purchase. I did not realize how much real estate this desk allows for my work station, I work from home every day, around 170 hours a month, I manage a laptop, a desktop with 2 screens, some papers that come and go and sometimes I use a fightstick to relax playing games. Everything fits in, I have so much space to just keep things around, it is a pleasure. Could I have gotten a desk that looks this good at this size for that amount of money? Maybe, but honestly I am using this desk for the next 5-10 years, a 100-200 quid difference over that amount of time is not a bother to me. The only issue I am finding, is I am struggling to find a screen mount that fits in the cable management tray in the UK and I am a bit lazy to cut off the screw on my current one. Once I fix that issue I will be back to being very happy with my purchase. Now I am looking for ways to take full advantage of the magnetic stuff, water bottle holder, my audio interface stuck in place with magnet strips stuck to the feet, etcetcet. Having so much magnetic surface really opens a door to custom modding that I appreciate.

That's also not mentioning that these solutions typically rely on permanent installation or using double sided tape. Your criticism on it not being smart compatible is fair though and it is something I've asked SL about myself, just saying that overall the price for the magstrip is actually pretty fair. Also, the desk is height adjustable just not to the extent of a sit/stand. Just minor points but otherwise a pretty measured and thoughtful review!

Thanks for watching. The LED strip price is a pure retail price, now think as a company, the margin they put on top of it - (just like with desk) purely ridiculous just because it has "gamer" in mind. The diffuser they use is similar to the ones Corsair and Lian Li use in their recent offerings so no, it's not the same as the $10 offering from Ali and that's not even mentioning the fact that it's designed to integrate with their magnetic system. Your most valid argument is the smart aspect. I've spoken to SL reps and that's something they're working on with their next iteration. Yes it should have been a no brainer but this is a new endeavor for them so I'm willing to concede this point. Finally, all of this is ignoring the absolutely fantastic customer service SL offers on all of their products. Good luck getting IKEA to honor a refund on a burned out desk motor a year and a half into your use, SL will just straight up send you a replacement part at no cost with expedited shipping. So are you saying that because it's an expensive chair, it's ok for it to fall apart? Now let’s look at it from another perspective, they can send you a replacement part only because you already paid upfront for it with the initial purchase. I got it, you aren’t fun of Ikea, and clearly have not paid attention to their product range, possibly because you had a bad experience with their cheap products, but if you look it up, they have a range of really good quality products, and those don't come cheap in Ikea price standards, on top of that, their return policy is 365 days, nobody else does, because there is a reason. Can you return your chair 9 months later after use to SecretLab? Even during the trial period, you have to ship it back to them and pay for the shipment, did you see that box and weight? its gonna cost you. Still, I get it, you might have pre-ordered the desk and this video makes it look mediocre... It is your choice as a consumer to like or hate something, my mission here is to open up other perspectives and give better cost-effective ideas to those who care about the budgets vs show-offs. LED diffuser is only necessary if the surface of your walls is glossy or mirrored, otherwise, it's not mirrored/reflected off most of the walls that have eggshell or matt paints. Literally just the plate with their logo on it that went on the outside edge of the knob and they sent me an entirely new backrest, expedited the shipping for free and didn’t even ask me to return the original backrest so now I have a backup if I ever need it (which I seriously doubt unless I somehow rip it or stain it through my own fault) As for the preorder, no I haven’t preordered the Magnus. If they had a larger size I probably would have but I instead found a wood desktop being sold secondhand on Facebook and added my own lighting solution to the back. My sentiments on the Magnus still stand, I still think it’s a kickass product with a lot of great ideas for product integration. The cable management and accessories make it a really awesome, cohesive desk that saves you the trouble of having to find your own solutions to those problems and for me paying a slight premium for that cohesive design is worth it. As for IKEA stuff, I have plenty of it lol. I don’t have a problem with IKEA but there’s a pretty noticeable difference in quality. SL offers a 5 year warranty on their chairs and desk which is fuckin awesome. I get it, not everyone is able to drop the extra bit of money for SL products and I’d advocate that anyone work within their budget to get their best setup. That said, there is a noticeable difference in quality as you progress up the price bracket. If you want a quality product with professional and courteous customer support, the products on offer from SecretLab are fantastic. Honestly, I'm not sure I'm quite sold here. The benefits that appeal to me with the Magnus desk are primarily in cable management and sleek shape. I want a cable tray in the back, and the ikea alternative you mentioned is terribly ugly. I want cable management that makes cables totally invisible and easy to run down the legs; the magnetic feature is great for cable management because you can adjust your setup any way you like, it never has to be permanent, but it still stays where you put it. While I agree that the ad for the desk has many features they're treating as revolutionary that have been done before, the thing that I like about the Magnus desk is that they've put together the features I like in a fairly sleek package. I don't love that it's covered in gamer aesthetic (the logos etc) and would much rather a simple sleek solid colored desk with the rgb strip, but the cable management features look amazing to me. However, given that their desk is very expensive and it's likely much of the price is inflated for gimmicks as you've said, I'm hoping to still follow your advice and build my own desk. I'm in for some serious challenges however, as I'd like to match the sleek aesthetic, plus the functionality, but I'll have to build it out of wood and find a way to make some areas magnetic to achieve the cable management I'm after.

For "actual comparison" effect, read comments under this video of people who ended up buying and confirmed that I was right 😀 the magnus is flimsy. Also the advantage of sit stand desk is that you can fully adjust it to your height and it's important for ergonomics that SL claims there, but it fact it is one size fits all, which is not necessarily best in this option. Bear in mind I live in North America, prices are different here from the rest of the World. Someone even commented here once saying that IKEA is counted as a premium brand in their country so it costs double what they can buy Magnus for. I totally agree about the dumb brainless brand following, it's good for the business, but is it good for the consumers? That is the whole point of my channel. See how many dislikes this video has? Guess who put them there 😆

I will wait until the Magnus V2 to get a new desk, but I like their accessories despite the price. That is a cool frame, Ikea does a good job with motorized frames and they have great return and warranty. One thing I want you to pay attention to if you can pop by their store, is how worn out that uppspel top where your hands land. At my local ikea, its semi-gloss finish looks destroyed by crowds of people. I would pick a top made for office instead. Frame is really good though.

I dont think it's anyhow straightforward to gety magnetic parts for DYI I've had a look today at any desks that would have at least similar features and whilst i found a few thar were in a lower price range, I asked myself - hold on a second, do I know this brand, do I Ihave any guarantee on it, no - so I decided to pay 200 more to have it last a lifetime - shoot me if I got it wrong, but I am happy

One other thing to mention when your purchase Secretlab chairs or desk, customer service in Europe, Australia, Uk does not exist I'm one of these idiots that ordered Chair and desk but never got the desk it's been a month since they shipped it, and still dealing with customer service which does not give a f...k. I will post my own review of Secretlab chair and desk if eventually, I will get it but to me, this company is way overpriced and with one of the worst customer services. My advice would be the same as Roman's buy it from IKEA or from a company that has good reviews and have a decent price.

Nah, I don't approve Secretlab desk, it's wobbly, has to lean against something to be sturdy. The metal edges give you a cold feeling and static electric shock once in a while. My desk, it has no issues, I can make it taller shorted any second, make it wider if needed, with wide range of table tops made of real wood that is pleasant to touch. It takes less space visually too.

Cool video, but I find it hard to accept it without actually seeing a comparison. I currently have a sit-stand desk that measures 72 inches wide by 30 inches deep and while I like the sit stand function, I don't use it very much. I really want to buy the Magnus because the metal top gives you a lot of options to make your own accessories with magnets, not just their own. I like the video because it gives me a few things to think about, but still like I said its kind of hard to take your word for it when most of it is speculative.
@RomanDoes

Just put a metal top on your desk and call it a day. All that cable management can be achieved on any table. There are tons of other cable tray solutions at low cost that you can look at. Check Amazon and Ebay. For the "no actual desk" part, I don't need one, I see it's bs right through it. As proof, read some of the reviews that people left of their experience with Magnus, guess who was right? Sit stand is the way to go, as it allows custom ergonomics, which Magnus is lacking, unless you are of same proportion as the presenter. With SL, there is a lot of marketing involved, and this video gets a lot of fanboys angry. That is fine with me, coz if they react, it means I am on the right path. Just like the console wars 😀

@RomanDoes it was mostly a jest making fun of you saying go buy product from a hypebeast company due to the price tag for the desk. Hypebeast is slang for someone or a company that buys/makes overpriced products that are trying to follow trends or are overhyped. I actually have that desks L shape brother (Bekant), and it's actually really good. The early motors had issues during early production, but the warranty and greasing the sliding legs had entirely fixed it for me for the last 7 years or so.
@RomanDoes

I don't think Ikea is a "hypebeast" company by any means. Do they try to follow the trends? Yes, and so do everyone else. It's kinda business 101. I would say hypebeast more applies to SecretLab in this particular case. Bekant isn't the best frame out there either and for a long life span, you do need a desk with double motor especially if you plan on loading it up with all the gaming/streaming peripherals. I definitely like this SecretLab standup "Pro" desk: bit.ly/3OfadIr . Would I buy it though? That's a tough question.
