After looking at the titanium tent stoves available I reached the conclusion that the Seek Outside Titanium Stoves are the best of the type, and I particularly like their tight tolerances and the sliding door design. I specifically ignored the no-brand Chinese titanium stoves sold under whatever label anyone who orders 10+ stoves requests and focused on the established US tent stove manufacturers from whom I could obtain replacement parts if needed at some future point! I phoned Seek Outside and asked if I could buy a solid sided Cub Stove (not the Cub U-Turn titanium foil version) but with the Cub U-Turn top plate with the 2.5" stovepipe aperture, and I offered to pay extra to get this configuration I also wanted a spare stove base panel to use as a snow platform together with an additional 8 round base feet. To my delight Seek Outside had some solid side panels for the Cub still in stock and said that they could supply everything I requested! I was not charged any extra despite my offer, only for the stove and additional spare parts I ordered and was quoted a good price and shipping charge. My order was placed and despatched during the Covid-19 outbreak and I cannot thank Seek Outside enough for their help in letting me get the stove configured to my preferred specification. I have no connection to Seek Outside other than as a customer buying their own tent stove at published prices. These are my own experiences and opinions.

Good test and demo of the S-O tent and stove system. For that stove, there may be an underneath reflector you could make (e.g silvery welder's cloth?), to suspend with an air space, and then make some sort of attachments to the legs to attach skid logs to float on the snow? For winter camping, the innovation never stops!

+Waw Hiker I find that just quartering a few logs into 18" or so stakes works really well. I didn't even notch them at the top. There was lots of deadfall there, however zero birch trees or pines which is typically my go-to fire starter. When I go to the huron forest further to the east there is plenty of birch and further south where I live lots of pines. My goal was to be able to pack a shelter and stove in. If I had a sled I would use a steel stove as the titanium cools much too quickly. I'd love to try a wall tent someday. Might have to save my pennies because I think I would like the layout much better. Stove at the front and sleep in the rear. Do you find the heat makes it to your sleep zone ok? With the stove in the center in a tipi you really have to watch out for it. Again, super light weight is the major plus there. Thanks for watching.

+Tom Pawlowski The stove goes together in five minutes or so. Very easy. Packs down really small too. I like the Sven for larger logs for the stove. When I am out day hiking and take a small backpacking stove I use the laplander or silky. When I am preparing for a large fire I use an axe.

+NWTrailBum Long stakes :)
@livingsurvival
8 жыл бұрын
+NWTrailBum In all honesty though you can tamp down as much as possible with snow shoes and then use long stakes or for really deep snow use snow anchors. The issue with a tipi is so many tie outs vs. a wall tent where there are four corners. Another drawback is the stove is in the center of the tipi although the pole is as well and your heat is centrally located that way. On the plus side it weighs nearly nothing and can fit into a very small compression sack. Along with a lightweight titanium stove it only weighs several pounds and can easily fit on a pack.

I spent a considerable amount of time trying to establish whether I could justify the cost of a titanium tent stove, especially with the necessary shipping charges and the inevitable Import Duty and Taxes added! In time, I concluded that it would hugely improve the quality of my winter camping and that it was an investment in my future camp comfort, well-being and cooking! So I bought a Seek Outside Cub stove (not the U-Turn titanium foil version) but with the U-Turn Cub top plate with it's 2.5" stovepipe aperture, together with a spare stove base panel to use as a snow platform and 8 spare round base feet. Thanks to Seek Outside I got my stove configured to my preferred specification and even though I had offered to pay extra for that, they declined, charging me only their published costs and shipping. Their products are excellent designs of very high quality and are extremely well constructed and my stove will certainly outlive me, added to that I found them to be extremely helpful to deal with and very honourable in declining my offer to pay extra to get my stove configured to my preferred specification. I am more than happy to pay for such a high quality titanium tent stove, (especially one configured to my preferred specification) even with the costs of shipping and the very expensive Import Duty and Taxes! I originally went through the angst of trying to decide whether I could justify the cost of an Alpacka Raft Packraft (I could!) and decades earlier it was about Snap On Tools (I did with those too!). I respectfully disagree with your Saks Fifth Avenue analogy, Seek Outside are nothing like that!

this is foreign to me... i like the stove idea, as i could imagine you could conceivably add it to a hiking system without being way too heavy. you've lost me with the stretcher and the giant mattress though. it looks to me as if you haven;t done much in the way of hiking, but believe me when i say you don't want to be carrying over a quarter of your bodyweight for a long time. also the freeze dried meals? is that really something a survivalist would do? i would have expected you'd be into making and setting traps...
@livingsurvival
8 жыл бұрын
freeze dried meals are a very lightweight option that will get you by for several days while you secure other food in the form of traps or fishing. the cot and pad are simply showing how you can smooth it which why anyone would do anything else just because is beyond me. little man syndrome I guess.

Nice knockoff. Get a Kifaru!
@flashmanv3260
6 жыл бұрын
@Nick,...Not sure if you are talking about the tent or the stove? If the stove, I didn't think kifaru made titanium stoves, they are stainless, unless they now have a TI model now? As far as a knock off, this stove has good reviews,.. and for this kind of stove anyway, it's really just bent duct work,.. not a big quality issue, there is really not much to them. The titanium makes this a bit lighter and more backpack friendly. It lacks the heat retention that a good wood stove would have, but so will any lightweight backpacking stove, it's a trade off to be able to bring a lightweight stove on a long haul to keep your pack light for long backpacking trips.
@felixcat9318
3 жыл бұрын
To call this a knock off is utterly ludicrous, that apart, Kifaru Stoves were traditionally made in stainless steel whereas these are titanium, with a noticeably lighter weight. By your logic, the Kifaru round stoves are a knock off of the Titanium Goat round stoves!
