I have 2 SSCs; the Pepsi, and the all black. I like them a lot. They are stylish, and a great value for the money.

I haven’t seen a better review on KZitem but let me add a little after 6.5 years with my Pepsi on the stock black rubber strap. Here is a diver with the accuracy of quartz that doesn’t need unsealing and resealing every few years for battery replacement because the solar charging feature keeps it going indefinitely. I might have looked down my nose a bit at a non mechanical movement but now it seems clear that it requires the least maintenance and maintains the greatest accuracy over the long term compared with any automatic or mere quartz. I keep the crown/pushers screwed down unless I’m actually using the chronograph feature so nothing gets inside the movement. I wear it less than once/week, not always in the sun, and it’s only stored in room light but accuracy stays dead on. Can anyone imagine a more maintenance-free diver chronograph? For 200 bucks at Costco?? My stock rubber strap is not as supple as I would like and it’s a little bulky on my puny 6.75” wrist but I love it. That strap is smooth black on the outside, subtly textured on my skin and tapers from lug width to maybe 18mm as it goes around my wrist. Although the rubber is stiff it’s quite comfortable because it has 3 springy accordion “links” where it tapers in width as it passes around my wrist from the lugs. There is a nice Seiko Tsunami logo molded into the the strap on the outside at the tip. There is no cracking or sign of wear on this midnight black strap. I just wish the 24 hour subdial could be set to another time zone but it seems to be locked in with the movement. I’ve put a couple of noticeable scratches on my Pepsi bezel over the years but it’s still perfectly aligned. My wife gave it to me as a birthday gift or I would never have realized how superior a solar quartz movement is. I’m the watch collector but she thoroughly schools me with a choice I could not have made myself. That’s love.

I own the Seiko SSC017P2 in the blue accents, but my Seiko time piece isn't a Prospex X, but I've had other people tell it's pretty much the same time piece. It doesn't bother me. These time piece's are very well built and I love the heft. The Lumibrite is the best I've seen. It last all night on a great charge or even just wearing through out the day. I am getting another one, but it's going to be the all black one. Great time piece's. You did a great job on this video. Thank You Bro.

Michael Kish the Ssc017 is a great looking version. And having a pre-Prospex version might become a collectible so that's cool. I don't believe there is any functional difference, they just changed the branding at some point. Thanks for watching and the comments.

My girlfriend went to a Bed and Breakfast. I wore my Seiko SSC017-P1 in the hot tube and it worked great. This is my everyday time piece, if I'm not wearing my Casio GG-1000-1ADR in the rosegold. I am getting the all black one. Seiko makes well built time piece's. Great video Bro. Great video. Happy New Year.

I got a seamaster but it's sitting in drawer for almost 2 years. A watch in nowadays is not what one must wear every other day to make it move. Credit goes to solar cell, and Seiko should polish the solar dive watch to Rolex level and can at least sell triple as its current price.

Nice review. I looked at one of these about a year ago in the black and blue configuration ssc017. It was an alright watch, but I felt like it overall had a cheaper feel than most of the Seiko watches I have owned or liked. As an alternative I found the SRP787 that I may end up breaking down and grabbing online at some point. You are definitely correct about the hatred for this style of watch because of it not being an automatic. I prefer an automatic, but think there is always a place for a Quartz in the collection and have 3 or 4 in my watch box even if they don't get much wear.
@JustBlueFish

Srp787 would make for a nice black/blue Batman Diver. Go for it! Regarding the SSC solar quarts series, I really like it, I just wish my bezel wasn't misaligned. My SKX gets all the wrist time because of that. I might have to look into a replacement or fix for it. It bothers me more and more.

I was going to get this before I got my SKX. The problem was that it was just too big for my wrists, and I prefer an offset crown for bicycle riding. Like you, I prefer to buy on a bracelet because it's rare to find an aftermarket bracelet with endlinks that fit a watch's case. The only time I don't is if the bracelet sucks (like on the SKX). For many Seikos, Strapcode makes a better aftermarket bracelet (with screws instead of pins), so Seiko is often the exception for me.
@JustBlueFish

I think I like the SKX a little bit better then this, but the SSC line of watches are still great and you can't beat the accuracy. But for comfort on the wrist you made the right choice going with the SKX, it does wear a little bit better.

JustBlueFish I was initially very hesitant to get the SKX. It was the only watch that fit all of my criteria, as most other watches don't have an offset crown or day function, but I just didn't like the way it looked. Since owning it for a year, I've come to appreciate how its design is all about form following function. I ended up also getting a Pepsi Orient Mako, which looked the way I wanted much more than the SKX, but lacked the latter's durability.

I've been eyeing the Orient Mako USA II. They've been out of stock, but it's a nice looking diver. Has more of a Rolex Submariner look then the SKX, but I wouldn't call it a copy of the submariner. Just enough of the same feel to remind me of it.
@toolongforyoutoread6

JustBlueFish The Mako USA is indeed a cool watch. I almost got one instead of my SKX, but I decided against it. The Mako's two main advantages were it's bracelet and sapphire crystal. Strapcode took care of the bracelet for the SKX, and I discovered that the crystal on the Mako sat below the bezel. Apparently, Orient's explanation for this was that it would protect the crystal from being scratched, which makes no damn sense. The only reason I can see for them putting a scratch-proof crystal below a very scratchable bezel is because a thinner crystal would keep costs down. Having said that, I am very pleased with my Mako and I think that it is a worthy competitor to the SKX.

is it possible to "mod" it and lets say, put a jubilee style bracelet from the skx or not? do they apply to each other?
@JustBlueFish

The Seiko SKX jubilee is 22mm, the SSC019 has 20mm lugs. So that bracelet won't fit, but there might be others out there that will I'm not sure though.

yes, thank you, i know its a size difference, but i havent seen any picture of scc019 with a 20mm jubilee, i`ve seen one with a watchadoo bracelet, and it just looks gorgeous. I am buying this seiko scc019, wanted the skx009, but that blue color made me excited. for some reason i just dont like the bracelet, and i`m considering switching to jubille as soon as i get it. Thanks again, great review !

Manuals and automatics are antiquated and don't keep time as accurately as the quartz watches. I believe the essence of timekeeping is accuracy. It is time to embrace the quartz watches. They are dependable and inexpensive. Manuals and automatics are for high-end watch collectors. I own 2 Rolexes. As a matter of fact, I rely mostly on my cell phone if I want precise time before I bought my Citizen Radio Controlled Perpetual watch and a Seiko CCD019. Seiko automatics are junks!

Actually I checked again, the information of its thickness is VERY inconsistent over the internet, and I just heard some reviewer said it's 18mm, and it does look that bulky. Not sure whether it is accurate or not. Sorry if it's wrong. By the way, do you know whether this is the same thickness as the new released sne435? Thanks!

I'm not sure, about the SNE435 thickness, I haven't seen that piece yet.
