If Black Excellence Was A Person…
Congratulations to my baby girl for finally making her #NationalCollegeDecisionDay choice to attend the illustrious Spelman College and join the dynamic women of the Class of 2025. SeKai will be attending Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia on a FULL Scholarship in the name of the magnificent Dovey Johnson Roundtree Scholarship.
Ms. Johnson was a proud Spelman Alumnae from the Class of 1938, a brilliant civil rights attorney, who helped dismantle the practice of separate but equal with her 1955 bus desegregation case. Scholars selected for this award are determined to have exhibited throughout their high school careers the intellectual bravery that Spelman woman before them have harnessed to change the world. Spelman leadership has recognized SeKai Parker as one such woman. The DJR Scholarship was endowed by a $40 Million Gift to Spelman from the leaders of Netflix back in 2020 shortly after the resurgence of the Civil Rights Movement and Black Lives Matter.
I am over the moon with so much joy, excitement, relief, and just pride. My baby girl has worked so diligently and her effort has truly been rewarded tenfold. This award covers the FULL COST of tuition, room, board, and all fees. Her mommy’s financial obligation is $0 (ZERO). This is truly a miracle and nothing but GOD and the many amazing trailblazing women in her Spelman ancestry. WE are humbled and grateful for this award and it’s honor.
Please help me wish my baby, SeKai Parker, congratulations.
